Mets offer to Trevor Bauer was $105M over 3. 40M, 35M, and 30M. Opt outs after each of the 1st 2 years. Plus another 5M if opt out came after 2nd year — so 80M if he’d stayed for 2. Very comparable deal. Obvs he loves LA.

Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: Sources told the Daily News the Mets made Bauer an offer for over $100 million across three years with an opt out after 2021, which would have put them well over the $210 million luxury tax threshold. Bauer’s three-year deal with the Dodgers is for $102 million guaranteed, with $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2022, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. He can opt out after each year.

The point is this: the Mets missed out on J.T. Realmuto, George Springer AND Trevor Bauer. That's tough to swallow. I get it.

BUT if they sign an Odorizzi/Paxton type, then extend Lindor and Conforto, that's still an excellent offseason. Not an all-timer, but a solid one indeed.
