Game Recap: St. Lucie Mets Shut Out Tortugas 4-0 on July 4th

 

St. Lucie now 5-2 in last 7 games

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 4, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets shut out the Daytona Tortugas 4-0 on Independence Day at Jackie Robinson Ballpark (Box Score).

It was the first nine-inning shutout for the Mets since they beat Jupiter 1-0 on April 21st. 

Three pitchers combined to blank the Tortugas. Tony Dibrell made a minor league rehab start and pitched first 1.2 innings. He did not allow a hit, walked one and struck out three. 

Jeffrey Colon (1-0) pitched the next 5.1 innings to get the win. He scattered three singles, walked one and struck out a season-high eight hitters.

Trey McLoughlin worked around a leadoff single and walk in the eighth inning. He pitched the final two innings to get his first save. 

The Mets took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Justin Guerrera and Jack-Thomas Wold hit back-to-back RBI singles against Daytona starter Chase Petty (0-3). 

Fernando Villalobos crushed a two-run homer in the eighth inning to provide insurance and put the Mets up 4-0. 

Villalobos and Wold had two hits apiece. 

Junior Tilien went 1 for 3 with a double, walk and run. 

The Mets improved to 13-2 vs. the Tortugas this season. 

The Mets (45-30, 5-5) and Tortugas (32-43, 3-7) are off on Tuesday. The series will resume on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
