Report: Mets and Edwin Diaz reach contract agreement

 

According ESPN writer Jeff Passan, the Mets and Edwin Diaz are in an agreement on a 5 year, $102 million contract.  

Star closer Edwin Díaz and the New York Mets are in agreement on a five-year, $102 million contract, pending physical, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. There’s an opt-out and a full no-trade clause, plus a sixth-year option. The best closer in baseball stays in New York.

Bringing Edwin Díaz back was the no-brainer of the offseason for a Mets team that must essentially build an entire bullpen from scratch. It's an expensive deal for a reliever, to be sure, but that's much easier to stomach with a player as well-liked and respected as Díaz.
