FLUSHING, N.Y., December 21, 2022 – The New York Mets announced today that the club has traded catcher James McCann and cash considerations to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a player to be named later.
McCann was signed to a four-year contract prior to the 2021 season. In his two-year stint with the Mets, he hit .220/.282/.328 with 13 home runs and 64 RBI in 182 games with the club.
The PTBNL going back to the Mets from the Orioles is not expected to be a notable prospect, per source. Even while paying down $19M of McCann’s contract, because of tax implications and CBT recalculations, the Mets will save $8M in this deal.
