From Yesterday's Pregame Notes: PACE OF PLAY: "Yesterday, in their first official day under MLB’s new rules for 2023, the Mets completed two split-squad games in a total of five hours and eight minutes (2:33 and 2:35)...New York played 10 doubleheaders last season with the average twin-bill lasting over six hours and 21 minutes...Seven of the Mets 10 doubleheaders last year took over six hours to complete, including two with over seven hours of total time between the two games." JFA: Interesting note but not sure a Spring Training time of game can compare with a game from the Regular Season.

According to Andy - "Because of the spacious dimensions at Citi Field, foot speed is more important for a left fielder there than at some ballparks. Mauricio has a slight edge over Baty in that area, but possibly not enough to be determinative." JFA's note: Mauricio was a 20/20 man last year. He has very good speed. I also have been impressed with his arm as he consistently makes the out at first from deep in the hole at SS.

1989 - Washington State University first baseman John Olerud undergoes brain surgery for the removal of an aneurysm. The left-handed first baseman had collapsed on January 11th after a workout. As a result of the aneurysm, he will wear a helmet at all times while on the playing field. Olerud will go on to enjoy a successful 17-season major league career with the Blue Jays, Mets, Mariners, Yankees and Red Sox, winning a batting title in 1993 and two All-Star berths.
