PRESS RELEASE: BARTOLO COLON SET TO RETIRE AS A MET ON SEPTEMBER 17

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 28, 2023 The New York Mets tonight announced that RHP Bartolo Colón, a member of the 2015 National League championship team, will officially retire as a member of the Mets on Sunday, September 17 in a press conference prior to the 1:40 p.m. game vs. Cincinnati.

The first 15,000 fans attending the September 17 game will receive a Bartolo Colón "Big Sexy" long sleeve shirt.

"I played with a lot of teams during my career but playing for the Mets was very special to me," said Colón. "The fans treated me great and I can't wait to celebrate my career with them on September 17."

Colón pitched with the Mets from 2014-2016, going 44-34 with a 3.90 ERA (255 ER/588.2 IP) in 98 games, 95 starts. He belted one memorable home run on May 7, 2016 in San Diego off James Shields. Colón became the oldest player (42 years, 349 days) to hit his first major league home run.

Former Mets Manager Terry Collins, whom Colón played for all three years in Queens, will also attend the press conference.
