Report: Mets are close to a deal with LHP Jake Diekman

According to Will Sammon and Andy Martino on X/Twitter, the Mets are close to a deal with 37 year old Left Handed Pitcher Jake Diekman.

The deal is apparently pending a physical.

After going 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA with the Chicago White Sox in 2023 and being released on May 6, 2023, Jake was picked up by the Tampa Bay Rays where he went 0-1 with a 2.18 ERA in 50 games with 53 strikeouts.

He has thrown as hard as 97 MPH but his fastball, according to Baseball Savant, typically is around 95 MPH which he throws 64% of the time. He also throws a slider - 18%/84 MPH, a changeup - 15%/88 MPH and a cutter - 3%/89MPH.

If signed to a Major League deal, the Mets will need to clear a roster spot off the 40-man roster which is currently full.
