Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

The Brooklyn Cyclones (0-3) return home to Maimonides Park for their 2024 home opener against the Asheville Tourists (2-1) — the High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros — on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. from Coney Island.

RHP Brandon Sproat (NR) — the New York Mets’ No. 11 prospect entering 2024 by Baseball America — is scheduled to make his professional debut for the Cyclones. RHP Jake Bloss (NR) — the Houston Astros’ No. 11 farmhand — expects to make the start for the Tourists.

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn suffered its second-consecutive walk-off defeat, falling to Wilmington, 1-0, in 10 innings at Frawley Stadium on Sunday...After clubbing a game-ending, two-run home run on Saturday, LF Jared McKenzie provided a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th on Sunday...RHP Calvin Ziegler retired all 12 batters in his Cyclones' debut, striking out a career-high-tying nine...The 21-year-old whiffed eight-straight hitters from the first until the fourth...RHP Dakota Hawkins set a new career-best with four K's in 3.0 innings out of the bullpen for Brooklyn...RF Stanley Consuegra collected two of the Cyclones' five hits...Ziegler, Hawkins, RHP Josh Hejka, and RHP Joshua Cornielly combined to register 18 strikeouts in 9.2 innings.

 

HOME OPENER: The Brooklyn Cyclones open up their 66-game home schedule on Tuesday evening vs. Asheville...The 'Clones are 16-5 all-time in their first home game of the season, including an 11-inning, 9-8 victory vs. Jersey Shore on Opening Day, April 7, 2023...Brooklyn won the contest on a Chase Estep walk-off walk...The Cyclones last dropped their first home contest in a 4-3 defeat vs. Hudson Valley on May 18, 2021.

 

ZEIG ZAG: After being limited to just 1.0 inning of work in 2023 due to injuries, RHP Calvin Ziegler flourished in his High-A and Cyclones' debut...The 21-year-old tied a career-high with nine strikeouts and punched out eight straight hitters from one out in the 1st until the last batter of the 3rd...Ziegler became just the fifth Brooklyn pitcher to strike out 9 or more hitters in 4.0 or fewer innings since 2005...RHP Blade Tidwell accomplished the feat last June 11 vs. Greenville, whiffing 10 in 4.0 frames...LHP Andrew Edwards (8/30/19), LHP Martin Anderson (7/7/17), and RHP Dawrin Frías (7/31/13) are the others.

 

GRAB SOME PINE: RHPs Calvin ZieglerJosh HejkaDakota Hawkins, and Joshua Corneilly combined to strike out 18 Wilmington hitters over 9.2 innings in Sunday's loss...The 18 strikeouts by Cyclones pitching marked the most for the franchise in a single game since July 23, 2016, vs. Aberdeen...RHP Justin Dunn (5), LHP Kyle Regnault (2), and RHP Nabil Crismatt (11) combined to whiff 18 IronBirds over 9.0 innings in a 7-2 win...The single-game franchise mark for team strikeouts is 22 set in a 20-inning, 3-2 loss vs. Staten Island on June 17, 2016.
