BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park. With the loss, Brooklyn concludes its series against Wilmington with wins in four of the six contests.

Despite the loss, RHP Nolan McLean shined in a scheduled abbreviated start. The two-way player tossed three scoreless innings, while allowing only one hit, walking one and striking out two. Of McLean’s four outings this season, three have been scoreless.

Wilmington cracked the code in the fourth when Brooklyn went to RHP Ben Simon. RF Terone Harris III knocked in the game’s first run on a ground ball through the middle. One frame later, the Blue Rocks doubled their lead when LF Phillip Glasser doubled home a run. Glasser enjoyed a productive day in his first appearance with an at-bat for Wilmington, finishing with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

The Blue Rocks added two more in the sixth off of RHP Diosmerky Taveras. C Maxwell Romero Jr. scorched a double to center field, extending the Blue Rocks lead to 4-0.

The Nationals affiliate was not done. In the sixth, SS Marcus Brown knocked in the fifth and final Blue Rocks run of the day off of RHP Joey Lancelotti.

The five runs mark the highest run total in a game all week for the Blue Rocks, topping their previous high of three runs.

Brooklyn did not go down without a fight, however. In the bottom of the eighth, 1B Mateo Gil looped a solo shot just over the fence in left field. Gil now joins McLean as the only players on the Cyclones with multiple home runs this season.

Still, the Brooklyn bats could not muster anything further.

The Cyclones return to action on Tuesday, when they welcome the Aberdeen Ironbirds, the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, to Coney Island for a six game set. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Maimonides Park. Both teams have yet to announce probable starters.
