New York Mets sign free agent RHP Alex Carrillo to a minor league contract.

 

The New York Mets have announced on the Transactions tab of their Roster page that they have signed RHP Alex Carrillo to a Minor League contract and assigned to the Syracuse Mets.

Other than a brief stint in the Texas Rangers association, the 27 year old Alex Carrillo has pitched in Independent, Mexican and Venezuelan Leagues.  He reportedly throws over 100 MPH.  Last year for Washington in the Frontier league he went 3-1, 3.31 ERA, 35 games, 35.1 innings, 49 Ks.  This Winter he is pitching for the Tigres de Aragua 4-0, 2.08 ERA, 14 games, 13 innings, 17 Ks.  

He will be eligible for the Major League Portion of the Rule 5 Draft but not the Minor League Portion.
