Press Release: Mets Roster Moves - Grant Hartwig, Alex Ramirez and Alex Young Cut

FLUSHING, N.Y., November 22, 2024 – The New York Mets today announced they have opted not to tender a contract to RHP Grant Hartwig, outfielder Alex Ramirez and LHP Alex Young. 

In addition, the team has agreed to a one-year contract with RHP Sean Reid-Foley. 

All other Mets players are signed for 2025 or will be tendered a contract. 

Analysis:

Alex Young and Grant Hartwig both have had mixed success at the Major Leagues.  It is likely they will sign minor league deals with the Mets or other teams.  

I thought the Mets might try to send Alex Ramirez to a Minor League roster this Winter but that would meant placing him on waivers.  Instead they decided to Non-Tender him. As I said in my Rule 5 Post: "The once top 5 Mets Prospect has fallen to #26 on MLB.com's Prospect List after tough years in Brooklyn in 2023 (.221/.310/.317) and Binghamton in 2024 (.210/.291/.299)."
