Report: Mets sign 2B/3B Nick Madrigal

 

Per Jon Heyman and other reports, the Mets have signed Nick Madrigal to a split contract (per Will Sammon).  According to Joel Sherman, Madrigal has already passed his physical and the deal is for $1.35M with a chance at $500K in performance bonuses.

Per Anthony DiComo, to make room for Nick Madrigal on the 40 Man Roster, the Mets designated Luis De Los Santos for assignment.

The Right Handed Batter and Fielder will turn 28 in March.  According to FanGraphs, he has one Minor League Option left.  

A good fielder, he could be a late inning defensive replacement or provide depth in AAA Syracuse.  

Last year for the Cubs he 0 Homers, 10 RBIs, .221/.280/.256,  He was drafted #4 in the 1st Round in 2018.  He has hit well at AAA and AA but despite putting up good numbers with the White Sox in 2020 and 2021, has not had the same success the last three years with the Cubs.

Speculation is that his arrival will preclude the Mets re-signing Jose Iglesias.  Jose is out of Minor League Options and after his performance in 2024, likely wants a Major League Contract.
