Will Sammon The Athletic: Mets’ Francisco Alvarez needed to fix his swing, J.D. Martinez gave him guidance. "Former Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez recommended Alvarez to Maven Baseball Lab, a training facility many professional players frequent. Martinez’s relationship with Tyler Krieger, who leads instruction on the hitting side at Maven, stretches several years...“He wants to be a complete hitter, not just a power hitter,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “In order for anyone to be a complete hitter, you need to use the whole field." Tim Healey Newsday: Mets prospect Jett Williams, coming off lost season, aiming for majors in 2025. Tim includes this quote from David Stearns: “I’m pretty confident that if [Jett has] a healthy season that allows him to get 550 plate appearances, we’re going to see a player who is going to continue to grow, move up the ladder a little bit and put himself in a position where people are starting to actually talk about him as a major-league option."
David Lennon Newsday: Mets' Mark Vientos has quieted the skeptics, but can he banish them for good? "...often the hardest part about getting to the top is staying there, and Vientos has set the bar awfully high after smashing 27 homers with an .837 OPS in 111 regular-season games. 'I don’t think that’s a fair expectation,' president of baseball operations David Stearns said Thursday. '...The league is going to make adjustments to him and he’s going to have to make adjustments back. So I think what we’re stressing to him is just focus on what you can control, recognize that it doesn’t get easier, but he’s in a really good spot.'”
Mike Puma NY Post: Jose Butto’s success last season made bullpen decision easy for Mets. "A potentially full rotation that includes reinforcements, and José Buttó’s success in the bullpen last season helped make the decision easy for Mets officials. Buttó will work in spring training as a reliever."
NY Post: Brandon Sproat and his 100 mph fastball will test Mets’ organizational goal. "Overall, he pitched to a 3.40 ERA with 131 strikeouts in 116 ¹/₃ innings last season. Sproat’s signature performance of the season was for Binghamton in August — he struck out 11 straight batters to conclude one start...Mendoza said he’s spoken to Sproat about using his time in camp to learn from the other pitchers and remain “in the mix.” Barring injuries, Sproat isn’t expected to be an option for the major league rotation to begin the season."
