Newsday: Mets' Juan Soto buys Brett Baty a $92,000 Chevy Tahoe as a thank-you for No. 22. "For six years, as he crisscrossed the country on his pro baseball journey, Brett Baty has rolled around in the same car he has driven since high school: a 2016 Toyota 4Runner, which racked up 150,000 miles along the way. As he drove out of the players’ lot at Mets spring training Thursday, however, he had a new ride, courtesy of Juan Soto: a 2025 Chevy Tahoe that cost $92,000."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Luisangel Acuna looking to build off strong September in majors. "The Mets believe in Acuna enough that they are proactively looking for ways for him to make it back onto the major-league roster. Although Nick Madrigal is the early favorite to win the backup infielder job, Acuna has been learning third base, a position he never played previously."
Mike Puma NY Post Sports+: Meet the under-the-radar Yankees import the Mets hope can raise their ceiling. Mike talked to new assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel who was hired from the Yankees When asked about why he came to the Mets he answered: "I think the Mets are a winner. I didn’t want to go from a winner to a nobody as essentially a lateral move in terms of title. The Mets certainly have similar opportunities as the Yankees." (subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Sports+: "The Mets will be bringing guest instructors to camp beginning next week. John Franco, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Carlos Beltran and David Wright will all appear at spring training over the next few weeks." (subscription required)
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets Notebook: Carlos Mendoza’s squad preparing to play under ABS challenge system in Grapefruit League games. "With MLB testing the automated ball-strike (ABS) system in big league spring training games this year, the Mets have been preparing. Clover Field will be one of 13 ballparks to use the system across the league, and while the team has been getting information from Triple-A players about the nuances of the system, the staff thought it would be a good idea to get their hitters experience with it before Saturday’s spring opener."
Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: Mets have their reasons for Jose Iglesias reluctance. "The Mets are reluctant to bring back Jose Iglesias despite his desire to return for a couple of reasons: 1) Jeff McNeil ($12 million a year) is thought to be untradeable, and 2) They have high regard and hopes for rookie Luisangel Acuña, who made a big impression late last year."
