NY Post Sports+: Examining Mets youngsters’ readiness to handle potential post-Pete Alonso spotlight. Mike looks at the players that might fill the Alonso void with this scout's quote on Mauricio: "I don’t think it’s fair to [Mauricio] to put him into that mix,” the scout said. “When you lose that whole year, it’s a lot — in a lot of ways. It’s, not only have you missed a whole year, but the next year when you come back you are trying to catch up and you are still trying to get better, so it’s like you are trying to prove to everybody and yourself that you are healthy and then you have lost that timing.”

Joel Sherman NY Sports Plus+: Why the most imposing opponent these Mets face is history. "If you believe the Mets are about to eliminate the black cloud that has for so long hung over their franchise, it is because you believe that they finally have that triumvirate of owner/GM/manager right; certainly the best since Joan Payson/Johnny Murphy/Gil Hodges in 1968-69...I think they [ Stearns/Cohen] know what they are doing. But I also know the history of this franchise. And so I want to see more. I want to see if, indeed, they are right about this roster. If, for just the second time in 19 seasons, they can win the NL East."

NY Daily News: Here’s how many wins the Yankees and Mets are projected by PECOTA to have in 2025. "Baseball Prospectus’ PECOTA standings project the Yankees to win 89.7 games and for the Mets to win 88.9. The projections, which came out Monday, envision both as playoff teams...The Mets, meanwhile, are projected to finish second in the NL East behind the Braves but ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies (87.5 wins), who won the division last year."

Andy Martino SNY.TV: With Pete Alonso’s market now defined, why not come home to the Mets? "When the Mets reached a deal with Stanek on Jan. 30 for $4.5 million, it signaled to me that they were leaving room for the possibility of a pivot back to Alonso...That same thought occurred when the team likely filled its utility infielder vacancy by signing Nick Madrigal to a split contract that maxes out at $1.35 million. That is significantly less than a reunion with Jose Iglesias would have cost."
