Tim Healey Newsday: Mets show off potent top five of lineup. "One week into exhibition games, the Mets finally got a look at their potential — and potentially potent — top five of their lineup Friday afternoon. Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo and Mark Vientos batted in that order in a 7-0 exhibition win over the Nationals."
NY Post: Juan Soto adds another homer to impressive Mets spring training start. "This one, a two-run blast to left field off lefty Shinnosuke Ogasawara, had an exit velocity of 106.1 mph...Soto is 3-for-8 with a walk at the plate this spring with four RBIs and a 1.569 OPS. His other non-home run hit was a single against the Cardinals on Monday."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets Notebook: Brandon Sproat shows velocity in first Grapefruit League start. "Sproat threw two scoreless innings in the Mets’ 7-0 win over the Washington Nationals, striking out one. They were two relatively easy innings, with three groundouts in the top of the first, all three of which came off of his sinker...If all goes well, Sproat could join the Mets rotation at some point this season.

Today's Game:
1:05 PM at Tampa Bay
Mets Scheduled Pitchers: RHP Blade Tidwell, RHP Dominic Hamel, RHP Austin Warren, RHP Rico Garcia
Rays Scheduled Pitchers: LHP Shane McClanahan, LHP Joe Rock, RHP Jacob Waguespack, RHP Alex Faedo, RHP Cole Wilcox, RHP Cole Sulser, RHP Paul Gervase, RHP Joey Gerber
Mike Puma NY Post Sports+: The simple math equation Blade Tidwell hopes will get him his Mets chance. "A right-hander with a big fastball who is regarded among the Mets’ top pitching prospects, the 23-year-old Tidwell said he was throwing as many as nine different pitches last season for Triple-A Syracuse. It wasn’t until he reduced that number to five that he felt better about his outings." (subscription required)
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Brett Baty trying to earn Opening Day roster spot as a utility infielder. "As the calendar flips to March, the season less than four weeks away, Baty has another prime opportunity to win a spot on the Opening Day club. He probably is the Mets’ best option...said Baty, who is 6-for-11 with two home runs to begin Grapefruit League play. “I just kind of view it (this camp and season) as there’s nothing to lose, honestly. Wherever I may be doesn’t really matter. I’m just going to try to help the team win wherever I am, try to leave it all out there.”
NY Post Sports+: It’s now or never for Drew Gilbert in all-important season for top Mets prospect. “I’m looking forward to proving myself again,” Gilbert told The Post. “I think no matter what year it is or what the circumstances are, you always have a sense of urgency and a sense to prove yourself every year. But I think there’s maybe a little extra this year.” (subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Post Sports+: Steve Cohen’s Mets pitching pipeline has long been elusive — could it finally be here? "Brandon Sproat, 24, heads a group that includes Blade Tidwell, Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong and is highly regarded within the Mets system. McLean hasn’t yet pitched above Double-A, and Tong reached that level for two starts last year. Sproat is the most intriguing of the group, with a fastball that can touch 100 mph and command of his secondary stuff." (subscription required)
