Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' David Stearns says team built to withstand early injuries to pitching staff. “I would prefer it didn't happen before our first spring training game, but I do think we're built to withstand this,” said Stearns, the president of baseball operations. “The rest of our guys are throwing the ball very well. Both Sean and Frankie seem to be progressing, at least for now, along the timeframes we anticipated at the front end, which is a good thing. And so now let's keep the rest of our guys healthy. Let's get into the season.”
NY Post: Why David Stearns is enjoying the Mets’ spring training ‘calm’ while he can. When asked if had second thoughts about "the lack of interest in retaining two popular players (Jose Iglesias and Jose Quintana) who became major contributors last year? Stearns answered: “No,” Stearns said. “We feel really good about our team. We prepare for injuries. We feel like we have depth, and I’m excited to see what some of our other players, including some of our young players, would be able to do with that opportunity.”
NY Post: Guardians bring back former outfielder Tyler Naquin — as a pitcher.
NY Post: Bryce Harper was ready to make major change for Phillies to sign Pete Alonso. "The Phillies star and two-time MVP stunningly revealed to The Athletic that he would have moved off first base and back to the outfield, where he began his career, had the team been interested in adding Mets first baseman Pete Alonso or another player of his ilk at the position."
Today's Game: 6:05 PM at Washington; Scheduled Mets Pitchers: RHP Paul Blackburn, RHP Max Kranick, RHP José Buttó, RHP Huascar Brazobán, RHP Chris Devenski.
