An impressive day for former #Mets prospect and @BKCyclones pitcher Mike Vasil.

With the #Rays against his former club: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K on 51 pitches (29 strikes).
The Rule 5 pick lowered his ERA to 5.91 on the spring. pic.twitter.com/BBCnpakcZq
Have a feeling INF Nick Roselli is going to be an under-the-radar name to watch in the #Mets system this year.

The 2024 11th-round pick ripped this double at 101.0 MPH off a big leaguer with a 3.37 ERA in 141 career games.

Want some more of that Boston Baro open-side goodness? Order up. (First swing is a homer, second is a single, third and slow-mo are a loud out). #Mets pic.twitter.com/MQzmWtWqAJ

Mets have an off day today. Next game will be Wednesday Night at 6 on the road against Houston.
Mets made the following Roster Moves before yesterday's game: The following players have been reassigned to minor league camp: INF Luis De Los Santos, LHP Anthony Gose, INF Joey Meneses, RHP Sean Reid-Foley and C Chris Williams...There are 44 players remaining in major league camp.
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets Notebook: Griffin Canning continues to impress, Brandon Nimmo back in the outfield. "Griffin Canning...held the Tampa Bay Rays to one earned run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings Monday in a split-squad Grapefruit League Game, walking one and striking out nine. The one run was a homer by Josh Lowe, with Canning leaving a 2-1 fastball up in the first inning. But that was the only blemish, and it was the first earned run given up by Canning this spring (0.90 ERA over 10 innings with 17 strikeouts)."
Bill Ladson Mets.com: Q&A: Mendoza breaks down Mets' injuries, outlook for 2025 season. Carlos speaks about the injuries, the 2B competition and had this to say about Kodai Senga: "This year, after going through the offseason, the training and all that, he reported to camp in really good condition. From what we are seeing, he is recovering well every time he takes the ball. That’s what you want to see."
NY Post: Dedniel Núñez shows what Mets missed in playoffs during spring debut as cautious plan awaits. "On Monday, the right-hander returned to game action for the first time since August, firing a scoreless inning in a 2-0 exhibition loss to the Rays at Clover Park...Núñez topped out at 98 mph with his four-seam fastball...He threw 11 pitches, six of which were sliders. “The same guy we saw last year when he was healthy, so another good sign there,” Carlo Mendoza said.
NY Post: Donovan Walton eyeing Mets role that would be long time coming with Jeff McNeil injured. Dan Martin explains how the 30 year old Walton was drafted by the Mets in the 36th round of the 2012 Draft but went to Oklahoma State, where his dad, Rob, was the pitching coach. Donovan is quoted as “Everyone wants to hit home runs, but even in college, I knew I was gonna be a player that was gonna get on base and do whatever it takes to help the club win. I take pride in it. I enjoy it.”
MLB Press Release: Ryan Clifford named to All-Spring Breakout Team. Ryan's Home Run on Sunday resulted in his being the 1B on the First Team.
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' roster battles go down to final days of spring training. Tim looks at all the possible candidates for the roster openings and notes this about the starting rotation: "Griffin Canning, Paul Blackburn and Tylor Megill might all make the team, according to Mendoza. But there are only two rotation openings, so the other guy would become a long reliever for the early going."

Born on this date:
- Matt Cleveland (1998)
Transactions:
New York Mets traded Jesse Orosco to the St. Louis Cardinals for Joe McEwing on March 18, 2000.
New York Mets released Luis Castillo on March 18, 2011.
2000 | After reacquiring Jesse Orosco from the Orioles in December, the Mets send the veteran left-hander to the Cardinals for utility player Joe McEwing. In 1978, the eventual four-decade hurler (1979-2003) was the player to be named later in the trade when New York dealt veteran southpaw Jerry Koosman to Minnesota. |
2011 | The Mets make a symbolic, but expensive, roster move when they release their second baseman, Luis Castillo. The embattled 35 year-old infielder, who will be best remembered by New York fans for the dropped popup in a 2009 Subway Series game at Yankee Stadium and his inability to stay healthy, is still owed the remaining $6 million on the four-year, $25 million contract he signed before the 2008 season. |
Two Years ago Carlos Carrasco tore his hamstring:
Carlos Carrasco has a hamstring tear and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, but the pitching depth the Mets added in the offseason should help offset the loss.
