Mets Spring Breakout Notebook: Ryan Clifford's power, Bohan Adderley's Jazz Chisholm connection headline notes on top prospects. They note this about Carson Benge: "...the Mets’ highest draft pick last year (19th overall) said that he put on 15 pounds of muscle since giving up pitching and concentrating on the outfield. Benge, 22, was a two-way player in college at Oklahoma State. He and the Mets “came to an understanding” that he would get off the mound, he said."
Tim Healey Newsday Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio 'getting close' in return from knee injuries. "Mauricio in recent weeks has largely been on his own regimen as the rest of the team gets ready for the season. His most recent progress, he said, included fielding ground balls at a higher intensity — instead of softer ones batted right at him — and moving laterally, which represents a noteworthy test for his lower half."
NY Post: Anthony Gose hoping to catch on with Mets after switch from outfield to mound. “I just didn’t hit enough,” Gose said. “Teams liked me as a pitcher coming up out of high school. I threw 97 mph. But I wanted to hit. I had a good year in 2015 and got off to a slow start in 2016 and never got out of it...I think I can pitch another 10-12 years with what I have in my arm.”
NY Post: Mets’ A.J. Minter finding new way to get batters out. “I just started to realize I am not going to worry about velocity,” the 31-year-old Minter said. “I am going to worry about getting ahead, mixing my pitches, and just I have to find a way to get outs differently instead of just rely on just my stuff. I ended up having a good second half in ’23, and it carried over to ’24.”
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Jonah Tong has stories to tell with his complicated name. "The Canadian government — and some autograph-seekers — knows him by another, longer name: Jonah Reid Tin Chee Matthew Tong." Tim goes into the full story of the name including how his mom was a fan of Joe Montana which accounts for the Jo in Jonah.
