From the Mets 8 Diamondbacks 3 Post Game Notes - 4/29/2025
Mets:
- The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks, 8-3, in the series opener of their three-game set...They improve to 13-1 at Citi Field this year, the best start to a season at home in franchise history...Are just the 11th team in MLB history to have a 13-1 or better record through their first 14 home games of the season...Also extended their winning streak to eight games at Citi Field, their longest such streak since winning eight straight in Queens from 6/12 - 6/28/24.
- The Amazins’ 21-9 record is tied for the fourth-best start to a season in franchise history...They join the 1972 (23-7), 1986 (22-8), 1988 (22-8), 1985 (21-9) and 2006 (21-9) teams as the only squads in franchise history to win 21 or more games through their first 30 games of the season.
- Won their 19th game in April...Join the 2024 Phillies, the 2023 Pirates, the 2014 Brewers, the 2008 Diamondbacks and the 1997 Braves as the only NL teams to win 19 games in April.
- New York starters have not allowed a home run in 14 consecutive home games, which is tied for the longest such streak in franchise history (also: 14 games from 6/18 - 7/8/74)...The Mets have pitched to a 2.06 ERA through their first 14 games at home, the best such mark in Citi Field history and the fifth-best such mark in franchise history...Only the 1985 team (1.57), the 1986 team (1.87), the 1971 team (1.90) and the 1976 team (1.97) had a better ERA through their first 14 home games of the season.
- Earned his second win of the season after allowing just one run over 5.0 innings pitched...Since the beginning of last season, the Mets are 20-7 when Peterson starts...Has allowed one or zero walks in four straight starts, the longest such streak of his career.
- Laced an RBI double down the left field line in the second inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead...Blooped an RBI single into to left field in the third inning...Was his first multi RBI game of the season and all five of his RBI this season have come at home.
- Blasted a solo home run in the fourth inning to increase the Mets' lead to 8-0...He now has 614 career RBI which is tied for the fifth-most in franchise history with Ed Kranepool...Has now reached base three or more times in 13 games this season, the most such games in the majors.
- Hit his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning to extend the Mets’ lead to 4-0...Marked his first home run from the right side this season.
- Recorded back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time this season and the second time in his career (also: 9/17 - 9/18/24)...Over his last 15 games with an at-bat, has hit .358 (19-53).
- Launched a two-run home run in the third inning to increase the Mets' lead to 6-0...Was his first home run at Citi Field since June 12, 2024 vs. Miami (76 at-bats).
Brian Joura Mets360: "To paraphrase Earl Weaver, the Mets won Tuesday’s game with pitching, defense and three home runs, downing the Diamondbacks, 8-3, at Citi Field. The victory upped their season record to 21-9 overall and 13-1 at home."
NY Post: Mets play like MLB’s top team as bats stay red hot in convincing win over Diamondbacks. "The Mets’ bats remained scorching and have scored 34 runs in three games. The Mets’ defenders seemed to try to outdo one another during one spectacular half-inning. And the Mets’ pitching arms quietly lowered their collective ERA to an MLB-best 2.60."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets stay red-hot at the plate, in the field in series-opening win over Diamondbacks. "Despite a lopsided score and home runs by Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Starling Marte, the most impressive inning for the Mets was one where they didn’t have to swing the bats at all. In the top of the fourth inning, with left-hander David Peterson facing the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Nos. 3-5 hitters, the Mets made three of the more difficult, dynamic plays you’ll see all year, and made them consecutively in an 8-3 win Tuesday night at Citi Field."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets put together highlight-reel defensive inning in win over Diamondbacks. "Mark Vientos and Francisco Lindor on the left side of the infield and Tyrone Taylor in centerfield combined for an impromptu clinic, an eight-pitch, 3-minute highlight reel in real time during the fourth inning of the Mets’ 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. In consecutive at-bats, Arizona’s Randal Grichuk, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Eugenio Suarez rocketed batted balls at 100 mph or harder. And each turned into an unlikely out."
Jason Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: "...an extraordinary catch by Tyrone Taylor, who used a perfect read and first step to close ground on a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drive into the left-field gap, diving on the warning track to snag the ball and just avoid contact with Jose Azocar. It was the kind of sequence you see in a superhero movie and mutter that the CGI looks impressive but needs a little more grounding in physics."
Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: It’s like these Mets can do no wrong as Party Citi vibes grow. "Games have transformed into parties at Citi Field, where the Mets are 13-1. It’s like they can do no wrong. And what about that rotation that was supposed to be their weakness? Well, with five one-run innings, David Peterson made it a National League record 30 straight games to begin the season where the Mets starter gave up four runs or less, according to ESPN stats guru Sarah Langs (the 2022 Yankees share the MLB mark at 41)." (Subscription required)
NY Post: Luisangel Acuna keeps forcing way into Mets’ lineup due to strong play. "Acuña started at second for a fourth straight game Tuesday, with the Mets facing Arizona lefty Eduardo Rodriguez and McNeil, who’s also seen time in center field, not in the lineup. Acuña entered Tuesday with an .811 OPS in his previous 13 games and had two hits, a pair of runs scored and a stolen base in an 8-3 win."
Before Yesterday's Game the Mets made the following roster moves: RHP Kevin Herget has been recalled from Triple-A; RHP Jose Ureña has been designated for assignment; LHP Brooks Raley has signed a one-year contract with a club option for the 2026 season…He has been placed on the 15-Day IL with left elbow surgery; LHP Sean Manaea has been transferred to the 60-Day IL.
NY Post: Mets’ Kevin Herget glad to just be in majors again — no matter how long it lasts. "Kevin Herget grew up in northern New Jersey, a Mets fan, rooting for David Wright and Jose Reyes and Edgardo Alfonso before that...Herget knows he may not stay in Queens long. The Mets need to open a roster spot Wednesday, with Brandon Waddell expected to pitch against Arizona."

New York Mets claimed Daryl Boston on waivers from the Chicago White Sox on April 30, 1990.
New York Mets signed free agent Val Pascucci on April 30, 2008.
1988 | Reds' manager Pete Rose will be suspended for thirty days and fined $10,000 for pushing David Pallone, after the umpire makes a delayed call that allows the eventual winning run to score in the team's 6-5 loss to the Mets at Riverfront Stadium. The Cincinnati skipper shoves the first base ump twice after claiming he was poked in the face, a charge the arbitrator denies, and one never substantiated by major league baseball. |
1990 | With Dale Murphy and Ernie Whitt on base, Mark Lemke grounds to second baseman Gregg Jefferies, who lobs the ball to David Cone covering first. The runner is called safe, which leads to the Mets starter having a complete meltdown, vehemently arguing the call with umpire Charlie Williams as the two Braves' runners cross the plate to score. |
2002 | Al Leiter becomes the first pitcher in baseball history to record wins over all thirty big league franchises that have been existence since 1901. The Mets southpaw earns the victory as New York routs the Diamondbacks at Bank One Ballpark, 10-1. |
2005 | With an enthusiastic RFK crowd chanting "Let's go, ground crew" the inexperienced group puts on quite a show of ineptitude when they struggle putting the tarp on a very soggy field during the second rain delay of the rain-shortened 5-3 victory over the Mets. New York files a protest after the game is called off in the bottom of the eighth, claiming the field became unplayable due to Washington's inability to cover the field during the 37-minute stoppage of play. |
2008 | Julio Franco, the oldest player to homer in the major leagues, announces his retirement from professional baseball, leaving the Quintana Roo Tigers of the Mexican League. The 49 year-old Dominican compiled a .298 average, collected 2,586 hits and hit 173 homers during his 23-year tenure with eight big league teams, which included the Phillies, Indians, Rangers, White Sox, Brewers, Rays, Braves, and Mets. |
2012 | When Brett Myers faces his first batter in the ninth inning, the Astros closer becomes the seventh different Houston pitcher to face seven consecutive Mets, a major league first. Houston manager Brad Mills wears out a path from the dugout to the mound when he pulls starter Bud Norris from the game and then proceeds to summon Wilton Lopez, Wesley Wright, Brandon Lyon, Fernando Abad, and Fernando Rodriguez, to face one batter each in the team's 4-3 victory at Citi Field. |
2017 - Anthony Rendon has a game for the ages as he goes 6-for-6 with his first three homers of the year and drives in 10 runs to lead the Nationals to a 23 - 5 drubbing of the Mets. He joins Walker Cooper as the only two players ever to have 6 hits and 10 RBIs in one game. Bryce Harper scores 4 runs to give 32 in April, a new major league record, and Matt Wieters has a pair of homers among his three hits. It is the most runs in franchise history for Washington. Worse for New York, Noah Syndergaard leaves the game in the 2nd after experiencing arm pain.
