Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Brandon Nimmo scores lone run as Mets’ bats go cold again in loss to A’s. "A lineup that was expected to mash has done so in what seems like fits and starts through 14 games this season. Saturday against the A’s, the Mets put traffic on the basepaths and made right-hander J.T. Ginn throw more pitches than he likely wanted to, but only had one run to show for it."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' bats go quiet in loss to Athletics, J.T. Ginn. "For as deep and dangerous as the Mets’ lineup may well be, here is their early-season reality: It is top heavy. When the big bats at the beginning don’t get it done, the others haven’t, either...The first third of the Mets’ order finished 0-for-9."

Mike Puma NY Post: Pete Alonso can’t carry Mets again in frustrating loss to A’s. "Pete Alonso is the engine driving the Mets lineup these days, but what happens when that motor isn’t running?...With the first baseman hitless in his four at-bats, the Mets lost 3-1 to the A’s at Sutter Health Park, setting up a series rubber game on Sunday.

Brian Joura Mets360: "David Peterson turned in a solid outing, giving up two runs in six innings, the only runs allowed coming in the fourth inning when the A’s strung together four hits and crossed the plate twice. Peterson came back strong in the fifth and sixth innings and appeared to have more gas in the tank. But Carlos Mendoza removed him, bringing in Jose Butto, who gave up a third run while finishing the final two innings."

"Pete Alonso homered and Luis Severino earned his first win for the New York Mets, who snapped Kansas City’s seven-game winning streak Friday night with a 6-1 victory over the Royals. Brett Baty hit a two-run double and the Mets scored all five of their runs off starter Michael Wacha with two outs. New York reached double digits in hits for the fourth consecutive game and has won six of eight following an 0-5 start."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Luis Severino got his first win as a Met. He gave up a solo homer but that was his only hit allowed in five innings. But it was a slog, as he allowed four walks."

    • Francisco Lindor (1-4, HR, RBI, R): Lined a game-tying home run to lead off the third.
    • Pete Alonso (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R, BB): Hit his major league-leading sixth home run in the fifth...Was his 66th career home run at Citi Field, tied with Michael Conforto for the second-most in the ballpark's history.

Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

After a just one minor league season, and a strong Spring Training, Mets Manager Joe Torre convinced Mets GM Frank Cashen to let Tim Leary start the season with the big club.

UPI.com: “Tim Leary, the New York Mets' rookie right-hander who has been tabbed the 'next Tom Seaver,' Tuesday was placed on the 21-day disabled list by the National League club.

Leary, 22, sustained a muscle strain of his right elbow in his major-league debut April 12 against the Cubs in Chicago and left the game after pitching two scoreless innings.”

ESPN.com: “The headlines hyped Leary as “Tim Terrific” since New York was starved for an ace after the trade of Tom Seaver to the Reds in 1977.  Unfortunately, the Mets made the mistake of giving Leary his major league debut on an unpleasant, chilly April 12, 1981, at Wrigley Field. Starting on the road toned down the hype, but didn’t provide the most pleasant pitching conditions. Leary struck out the first two hitters he faced but left after two innings with an injury to a muscle in his forearm, one that may have come from too much weightlifting.”

After Tim left, Pete Falcone threw 5 scoreless innings, Jeff Reardon walked 2 and Neil Allen allowed one of those to score to knot the game at 1-1.  Mike Cubbage knocked in the game winning run in the top of the 9th on  a sacrifice fly that scored Hubie Brooks
