NY Post: Francisco Lindor’s ‘very rare’ night in the field costs Mets in big way: ‘Doesn’t feel good’. "A pair of Lindor errors led to extra pitches for Kodai Senga and more importantly two unearned runs in a 4-2 loss to the Marlins at loanDepot Park."
Brian Joura Mets360: Gut Reaction: Marlins 4, Mets 2 (4/1/25) "It didn’t start off well for Senga, who threw a couple of pitches in the middle of the plate that were hammered for extra-bases. The leadoff batter...belted a double. And the second batter took a pitch that was middle-middle and sent it 421 feet for a 2-0 Marlins lead."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets fail to get big hit as they fall to Marlins in Kodai Senga’s first start of the season. "But the Mets picked up their ace. Brandon Nimmo hit his second home run in as many nights to lead off the second inning to cut the lead. Luisangel Acuña hit a ground-rule double in the third and a one-out single by Lindor sent him home to even the score at 2-2."
Tim Healey Newsday: Kodai Senga, Mets doomed by Francisco Lindor's key error in loss to Marlins. "Otto Lopez led off the bottom of the fourth with a rocket of a ground ball at Lindor, who biffed it, putting Lopez at first base...Later in the frame, with two outs...Jonah Bride worked a walk...Graham Pauley...pummeling a center-cut cutter into the left-centerfield gap for a two-run double."
Mets.com: With 8 K's in '25 debut, Senga gives Mets' rotation a boost. Senga finished his night strong, turning in a 1-2-3 fifth following Miami’s two-run fourth. “Other than the first two batters of the game … I thought he had, like, a wakeup call there [with the home run]," he said. "After that, he was really good. The slider, sweeper, the split was really good. And then the way he was using the fastball, he was really good after the first two hitters.”

Mike Puma NY Post: Sean Manaea suffers setback in Mets injury return. "The left-hander has been shut down from throwing for at least two weeks in his rehab after receiving a platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection for his strained right oblique...Manaea received an MRI exam that showed inflammation..."
NY Post: Sandy Alcantara could be Mets target if he gets put on trading block in future. "He also pitches for a franchise in another rebuild and will potentially waste prime years until he reaches free agency — the right-hander is signed through 2026, and the Marlins hold a club option on him for 2027."
Today's Game: RHP Clay Holmes (0-1, 3.86) vs. Connor Gillispie (0-1, 5.40) 4:40 p.m. (SNY, Audacy 880 AM, 92.3 FM HD2)

1972 | After playing a round of golf in West Palm Beach with his coaches on Easter Sunday, Mets manager Gil Hodges, two days shy of his 48th birthday, suffers a fatal heart attack. The club will name current first base coach and former Yankee skipper Yogi Berra to run the team when the strike-delayed season begins. |
1984 | For the first time in ten years, the Mets lose on Opening Day, bowing to the Reds, 8-1. The last time the team dropped a season opener was in 1974, when Mike Schmidt hit a two-run walk-off home run off Tug McGraw, giving the Phillies a 5-4 victory over New York at Veterans Stadium. |
2003 | Todd Zeile homers in his first at-bat as a Yankee, becoming the only major leaguer to hit a home run for ten different teams, surpassing Tommy Davis, who went deep for nine different clubs. In addition to homering with the Bronx Bombers, the infielder has also gone deep for the Cardinals, Cubs, Phillies, Orioles, Dodgers, Marlins, Rangers, Mets, and Rockies. |
2010: The injury-ravaged New York Mets round out their roster by making six cuts, sending Ps Nelson Figueroa, Kiko Calero, Bobby Parnell and Elmer Dessens, along with IF Russ Adams and OF Chris Carter, major league veterans all, down to AAA Buffalo.
