Brian Joura Mets360: The Mets survived a shaky ninth inning from Edwin Diaz to earn a 7-6 victory over the Athletics Friday night in Sacramento…Diaz allowed two runs and had the tying run on second base before wiggling out of it for the save.”

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Pete Alonso saves the day again with three RBIs in win over Athletics. “…they can thank Pete Alonso — yes, again….Alonso starred with his latest standout game: 3-for-3 with  a home run, a double, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs. He is up to four homers and 18 RBIs in 13 games…The Mets went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position, including 1-for-12 in those spots in the first five frames. They left 10 runners on base.”

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets fend off pesky A’s thanks to Pete Alonso’s latest big night. “The Mets’ strength as a lineup lies in a grind out approach that extends at-bats and forces opposing pitchers to work for outs…Alonso, who had an eight-pitch plate appearance earlier in the game in which he delivered an RBI double, homered on the seventh pitch of his at-bat against Jose Leclerc in the eighth.”

SNY on YouTube: Carlos Mendoza, Pete Alonso Post Game Reactions 4/11/25

Mike Puma NY Post: Why Mets pitching coach isn’t worried about starters’ short outings — yet. “I wish we could have mixed in a sixth inning here and there for our starters, but the 4 ²/3 are tough sometimes because that is going to put more pressure on the bullpen,” Hefner said. “But that is kind of the expectation these first few go-arounds, where normally you might give them those extra batters to push them above 90 [pitches] or closer to 100. But we have won, and we have put the team in a position to win games, and that’s what we are after.”

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets Notebook: Luis Severinowas willing to take less money to return. “The right-hander was awarded a three-year, $67 million contract in December in a somewhat stunning deal… the Mets were willing to offer him a contract similar to the one Frankie Montas signed, two years for $34 million. After going 11-7 with a 3.91 ERA over 31 starts for the Mets last season, Severino felt he was worth more money than that. He felt a two-year, $40 million contract was fair.”

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets need pitching efficiencyfor 13-game stretch with Blackburn, Montas and Manaea still out. "With Friday marking the start of a 13-game stretch without any off days, the Mets need their starting pitchers to start going deeper into games…That puts the onus on one of the best bullpens in baseball. However, that bullpen was taxed during a six-game homestand. Mets relievers have combined for 47 2/3 innings, the 11th-most in baseball…Get down early a few times, and the Mets could be in trouble by the time they return home to face the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies.”

1962

In front of 40,000 fans, the expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, along with broadcasters and other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the enthusiastic crowd as they drive by.

1986

In a humiliating 9–8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez's error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia's comeback. Six years, the New York first baseman's Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed in the wrong season and different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend.

2009

A pair of tickets for the Mets home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats were owned by Bernard Madoff, who is in jail after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme.
