The Brooklyn Cyclones (26-13) continue their road trip against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (15-23) — the High-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies — on Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m. from ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, N.J.

 

RHP R.J. Gordon (4-0, 2.56) is expected to start for the Cyclones. The BlueClaws are projected to counter with the Phillies’ No. 18 prospect per MLB Pipeline, RHP Alex McFarlane (0-3, 4.39).

LAST TIME OUT: The Cyclones' 6-game winning streak was snapped in a 6-4 loss at Jersey Shore on Tuesday night…Brooklyn held a 4-2 lead entering the bottom of the 7th before SS Bryan Rincon provided the go-ahead grand slam for the BlueClaws...3B Jacob Reimer picked up 2 hits and drove in a run, while CF Carson Benge reached base 3 times with a pair of walks and a triple...1B Ronald Hernandez added a multi-hit game and a RBI...SS Jesús Báez walked in all 4 plate appearances...RHP Brendan Girton tossed 4.1 innings of 2-run ball, allowing 4 hits and 3 walks, striking out 4...LHP Ryan Ammons punched out 3 over 1.2 innings of perfect relief...RHP Chandler Marsh added 2 K's in 1.2 frames of spotless work out of the bullpen.

 

SWIPER KEEP SWIPING: Brooklyn is off to a historic start on the basepaths in 2025...The Cyclones' 7-6 win over Wilmington on April 29 saw them nab a franchise record 9 stolen bases, courtesy of 7 players...The mark topped a previous high of 8 set on August 2, 2017, vs. Tri-City...Brooklyn continued to wreak havoc on the bases in a May 17 win over Winston-Salem, during which the Cyclones stole 6 bases courtesy of 3 players...Brooklyn enters play on Wednesday with 90 steals, good for the 2nd most in the South Atlantic League behind only Aberdeen (110)...The Cyclones are also 10th in Minor League Baseball in steals (90)...The 90 swiped bags are the most by the Cyclones through the team's first 39 games in Minor League Baseball's Digital ERA (2005-present) by 24 swipes...The 2024 club is 2nd with 66 steals through 39 games...The Cyclones' single-season franchise record is 181 steals set in 2024.

 

HOW SWEEP IT IS: With Sunday's 7-6 walk-off victory vs. Winston-Salem in 10 innings, the Cyclones completed their first 6-game sweep since 2022 and their first at home since 2021...Brooklyn had not completed a 6-game sweep since taking all 6 contests at Jersey Shore from August 23-28, 2022...The Cyclones outscored the BlueClaws, 53-18, in that series...It was Brooklyn's first 6-game sweep on Coney Island since July 20-25, 2021, vs. Wilmington...The 'Clones outscored the 'Rocks, 41-22, in that set...Brooklyn's 6-game winning streak was snapped Tuesday at Jersey Shore...It was the first time the team had won 6-straight games since September 3-9, 2022, vs. Wilmington and at Winston-Salem...The Cyclones clinched the Second Half South Atlantic League North Division crown during that win streak...Additionally, the Cyclones' 26-13 record through 39 games is tied with the 2009 squad for the franchise's best through 39 games in Minor League Baseball's Digital Era (2005-present).

 

CAN EW BELIEVE IT?: IF/OF A.J. Ewing has had a marvelous start to his 2025 season and was recognized as the South Atlantic League Player of the Week on Monday...In 5 games vs. Winston-Salem, the 20-year-old went 9-for-18 (.500) at the plate with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, a triple, 3 RBI, 5 walks, and 6 stolen bases...Ewing led the SAL in steals (6) and on-base percentage (.609) for the week...He is the first Cyclone to receive a league weekly honor since INF Nick Lorusso and LHP Felipe De La Cruz took home Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for May 20-26, 2024...Entering play on Wednesday, the Springboro, Ohio native is tied for 2nd in Minor League Baseball in triples (6), 3rd in stolen bases (28), 4th in batting average (.374), and 9th in on-base percentage (.468)...Since debuting with Brooklyn on April 29, Ewing leads the league in steals (14) and is 4th in hitting (.348), tied for 4th in triples (2) and hits (23), 8th in OPS (.957), and tied for 8th extra-base hits (8) and total bases (35) and on-base percentage (.443)...The 2023 4th-round pick enters Wednesday riding a 23-game on-base streak since April 18 and an 11-game hitting streak since May 6...During the on-base streak, Ewing has hit .356/.458/.533/.991 with 18 runs scored, 5 doubles, 4 triples, a home run, 13 RBI, 17 walks, and 21 stolen bases...Over his hitting streak, the left-handed batter has a .391/.462/.630/1.092 line with 11 runs scored, 4 doubles, 2 triples, a home run, 4 RBI, 6 walks, and 12 steals.
