NY Post: Reed Garrett’s eighth-inning implosion against Giants continues Mets’ nosedive.  "The Mets were four outs away from cruising to a streak-snapping victory before the typically reliable Reed Garrett let up a stunning eighth-inning grand slam."

NY Post: Mets had their hearts broken on the most unbelievable play by Matt Chapman. "Mets up-and-comer Mark Vientos chopped one down the third base line, and Chapman made a barehanded play on the ball, tossing Vientos out at first on a low throw that was scooped out, stopping a tying run from scoring on a breathtaking final play."

Brian Joura Mets360: "In their last nine games, Mets pitchers have allowed 60 R in 78.1 innings. That’s just brutal."

Brian Joura Mets360: Marcus Stroman had his sinker working to perfection, making the Mets pound the ball into the ground again and again and again. The end result was a 4-2 Cubs win Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.

Mets.comOutside of rookie catcher , who hit a two-run homer through the teeth of the wind, the Mets mustered next to nothing against former teammate Marcus Stroman. The top seven batters in their lineup finished 1-for-23.

NY PostSenga managed to survive allowing 11 base runners over five innings, with only three runs scoring. Pitching on six days’ rest, he walked five, surrendered six hits and departed after 106 pitches. That followed Senga’s best performance of the season, a three-hit gem over six innings with 12 strikeouts against the Rays.

NY Post: Mets’ huge comeback falls short in crazy game that had everything "Bassitt (who arrived from across the Bay Bridge in Oakland in a March trade) surrendered eight earned runs on eight hits and three walks over 4 ¹/₃ innings in his worst start in a Mets uniform."

Mets.com: Mets, Giants stage epic back-and-forth battle - "Showalter’s team appeared poised for another epic comeback victory, reminiscent of their seven-run ninth inning in Philadelphia earlier this month. Trailing 8-2, the Mets scored two runs in the seventh inning and seven more in the eighth to take an 11-8 lead in front of a stunned crowd."

Metstradamus: I should have just stayed on the couch. "Then I had a Keith moment and decided, I was going to stay on the couch because it had hits in it. It did indeed have one more as Francisco Lindor tripled to clear the bases to make it 10-8. Then after a Pete Alonso sac fly made it 11-8, you figured that the Mets were on their way."

Giants ties it at 11 all in the 8th, Mets went ahead 12-11 in the top of the 9th, only to lose 13-12 when Brandon Crawford singled in Darin Ruf.

Metstradamus: "Monday’s game certainly had reality written all over it. David Peterson gave up two solo homers in the 2nd inning. The Mets had problems with Rockies starter Austin Gomber...And they most likely lost another center fielder for a while as Fargas slammed into the wall hard in the 4th inning chasing Garrett Hampson’s RBI triple."

Mets.com: Mets fall short vs. Rox, dealt another injury. “they asked catcher James McCann to play first base for the first time in his career…McCann gave the Mets their two brightest moments of the evening, making a diving stop to rob Joshua Fuentes of a hit in the second inning, and homering for the Mets’ first run in the seventh.”

NY Post: Noah Syndergaard, pen stink it up as Mets’ streak ends in loss to awful Tigers. "After Syndergaard muddled for 5¹/₃ innings, Drew Gagnon’s implosion in the seventh inning crushed the Mets, who had a four-game winning streak snapped in a 9-8 loss at Citi Field, whiffing in their first attempt to reclaim .500 since their horrid last road trip...Aaron Altherr delivered a pinch-hit solo homer in the sixth that gave the Mets a 7-6 lead...Gagnon...entered in the seventh and flushed a 7-6 lead by allowing three earned runs after walking Cabrera leading off the inning. Jacoby Jones’ two-run double, which gave him four RBIs in the game, was the big hit."

"Wheeler (1-5) gave up just one hard hit all afternoon, but was victimized by a Wilmer Flores error that contributed an extra run in the Diamondbacks’ three-run second inning. He also was hurt by the fact the Mets could muster just two runs in a failed comeback bid...Duda was a walking rally killer, going 0-for-4 and stranding seven men on base, four in scoring position.
