From the Mets 3 Dodgers 1 Post Game Notes - 5/25/2025

MetsThe Mets defeated the Dodgers, 3-1, in the series finale of their three-game set...Marked their 12th comeback win of the season.

Kodai SengaRecorded his fifth win of the season after allowing one earned run over 5.1 innings...Recorded 100+ pitches for the third consecutive game for the first time since August 25 - September 20, 2023 (five straight games)...Has recorded a 1.46 ERA (9 ER/55.2 IP) this season which is the third lowest through a starter's first 10 games of a season with the club...He trails only Jacob deGrom (0.56 ERA in 2021) and David Cone (1.38 ERA in 1988)...Courtesy of Elias. Gave up a lead-off home run to Shohei Ohtani in the first inning, snapping his career-high streak of eight games without allowing a homer...he had not given up a homer to his last 202 batters faced. Has given up five earned runs in the first inning this season compared to four earned runs in all other innings combined.

Pete AlonsoHit a go-ahead two-run home run in the first inning.

Reed Garrett:  Recorded his first save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning...Through a Mets pitcher's first 23 games of a season, his 0.82 ERA is the sixth lowest and the lowest since Francisco Rodríguez's 0.76 ERA from April 2 - May 2, 2011.

Mets.com: "Facing his superstar countryman in the first inning Sunday night at Citi Field, Senga turned to watch Ohtani deposit a 95 mph fastball into the second deck in right. Then Senga, embodying a quality that has defined his entire team, pushed it aside to complete the rest of his business, pitching into the sixth inning of a 3-1 Mets win over the Dodgers."

Newsday: "After Senga allowed Ohtani’s 18th homer — which tied him with Aaron Judge and Kyle Schwarber for the MLB lead — Mookie Betts reached on an error and Freddie Freeman doubled to put two runners in scoring position with none out. Taylor raced in for a dying fly to right-center by Will Smith and on a dead run fired to catcher Luis Torrens to cut down Betts trying to score."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Ryne Stanek closed out the sixth inning, Max Kranick gave two innings and Reed Garrett struck out two batters in the ninth and got the save."

NY Post: "The Mets (32-21) snapped a two-series skid and are still breathing on the other side of a Yankees-Red Sox-Dodgers gauntlet, having won four of nine. The schedule more hollows than softens from here, the next six games in Queens against the White Sox and Rockies."

NY Post: Edwin Diaz blows another save before Mets implode in 10th against Giants for fifth straight loss.  "Another day, another back-breaking loss for the Mets. And Edwin Diaz was once again largely responsible for it. The closer — just put back into that role by Carlos Mendoza on Saturday, blew a save in the top of the ninth and the Mets went on to lose their fifth straight game, this one 7-2 in 10 innings to the Giants."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Luis Severino allowed just one run in seven innings and Adam Ottavino pitched a scoreless eighth. Diaz allowed a single to the leadoff hitter and after an out and a stolen base, he gave up a game-tying hit."

From the Giants 7 Mets 2 Post Game Notes - 5/25/2024:

  • Mets:
    • Move to 3-6 in extra-inning games this season.

  • Starling Marte:
    • Put the Mets on the board with a solo homer in the second...Has homered twice in his last four games after not homering in his previous 23 games.

Tomas Nido walks it off with a HR in the 13th inning.

NY Post: "[Tomas Nido] drilling a solo homer to right-center field in a 5-4, 13-inning victory over the Tigers at Citi Field...Nido’s solo shot completed a massive offensive display from Mets catchers. Before Nido took over behind the plate in the 12th, Wilson Ramos was the offense, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. That production alone was enough for the Mets (25-26) to hold a 4-3 lead going into the eighth....For the first time since saying he was able to use Edwin Diaz for a four-out save, Callaway called on his closer with two outs in the eighth inning and the tying run on third. But Jacoby Jones, who burned the Mets on Friday night for four RBIs, blooped a single into right field to pull the Tigers even at 4-all."

NY Post: Mets find a stopper on the mound, and it’s not Matt Harvey. "...after manager Terry Collins called a team meeting Sunday and turned to Colon (W,7-3) to play stopper, the veteran did just that with his first quality start in three weeks. He pitched the Mets to a slump-busting 6-3 victory over Philadelphia, and tied for the major league lead with his seventh win...Colon’s awkward swing produced just his second hit of the year in the fifth, and he even tagged up on a fly ball, taking third."

NY Post: Wilmer Flores’ game-winning HR pauses the Tulo, Starlin lust. "On Monday, he smashed a three-run homer in the sixth inning that put the Mets ahead in their 6-3 victory over the Phillies at Citi Field...Flores, Lucas Duda and Michael Cuddyer all homered in helping the Mets (25-21) snap a three-game losing streak in which they struck out 36 times against the Pirates and hit only one homer."

NY Post: A lot of nothin' - slumping Mets shut out again. "...the Mets were shut out in consecutive games for the first time this year, losing 3-0 to Atlanta. The Mets (23-24) have now been swept by the Braves and, in fact, haven’t won since Saturday against the Yankees, when Dae-Sung Koo doubled off Randy Johnson and scored on a bunt...Victor Zambrano...fashioning his best start this year with a six-inning effort in which he allowed just one earned run. But he also allowed two unearned runs...With the game scoreless in the fifth, the Braves put men on first and second with none out. They booed Mo Vaughn...The Mets began the seventh inning with a 4-1 lead, only to help the Marlins score five runs, only two of which were earned...With the Mets up 4-3, Alomar muffed a hard grounder.
