Brian Joura Mets360: "Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso both homered and drove in three runs to power the Mets to a 7-5 win over the Cardinals Tuesday night in St. Louis. The Mets clinched the series win and won back-to-back games for the first time since they won their sixth straight game on April 20."

NY Post: Pete Alonso finally busts out of slump as Mets storm past Cardinals"After Brandon Nimmo’s mammoth home run tied the game in the fifth inning and hits from Starling Marte and Francisco Lindor followed, Alonso launched a shot to right-center and was soon standing on second base thumping his chest and gesturing toward his teammates in the dugout. Alonso’s double knocked in the go-ahead runs...Alonso, who entered in a 1-for-30 skid, snapped a hitless streak of 12 at-bats with his double...he smashed a ninth-inning homer...his ninth of the season and first since he slugged No. 200 in his career on April 27 against the Cardinals."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets defeat Cardinals as Jose Butto works through early struggles. "[Butto's] line: five innings, five hits, three runs. He struck out three and walked three...All of those runs, however, came during a 28-pitch opening inning. The first time through the St. Louis lineup, Butto allowed six of nine batters to reach base...But then Butto did what he often does in such situations: He figured it out. He settled in. He survived."

Kiner's Korner: "With closer Edwin Diaz unavailable, the Mets turned to Adam Ottavino in the 9th inning with a 3-run lead...he gave up a one-out solo home run followed by a single and a 4-pitch walk which brought the potential winning run to the plate...Ottavino settled down and struck out the next two batters, Paul Goldschmidt and Alec Burleson, to end the game."

  • Mets: Lost their first series to the Rockies since dropping three out of four at Coors Field from June 18 - June 21, 2018...Was their first series loss to Colorado in Queens since they were swept from May 4 - May 6, 2018...Fell below .500 for the first time since they were 3-4 on April 5.
  • Jeff McNeil: Snapped an 0-11 drought with an RBI single in the first inning...Also had an RBI single in the fourth.
  • Daniel Vogelbach (1-4, HR, RBI, R, BB): Lined a solo home run in the seventh...Has a .316/.409/.474 slashline over his last 14 games.
  • Brett Baty (1-5, 2 RBI): Hit a two-RBI single in the first inning...Was his first multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Luis Guillorme (2-4 RBI): RBI): Broke a 0-13 hitless streak with a single in the first inning...Had an RBI single in the fifth.

Mets360: "The Mets held two separate leads in the game, with both 3-1 and 4-3 advantages. But right after re-taking the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mets’ bullpen proceeded to allow seven runs in the top of the fifth. And that was the ballgame."

NY Post: Boos rain down on Mets as bullpen implodes in ugly loss to Rockies "Joey Lucchesi, pitching on short rest after starting Wednesday afternoon in Detroit, lasted four innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks...the Mets collapsed in the fifth, when Jimmy Yacabonis and Tommy Hunter combined to allow seven earned runs on five hits."

Mets’ Daniel Vogelbach on costly base-running gaffe: ‘I messed up’ "The Mets received rare first-inning productivity Sunday with three runs, but Daniel Vogelbach’s sloppiness on the bases destroyed their chances of further denting the Rockies. Vogelbach got nailed for the third out retreating to second base on Luis Guillorme’s RBI single, negating a second run that would have scored on the hit, as Brett Baty raced toward the plate. Kris Bryant’s throw behind Vogelbach caught the Mets’ designated hitter off guard."

Mets.com: Rat? Raccoon? Mets give wild tale for tension:  "In the middle of the seventh inning Friday night at Citi Field, infielders Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil disappeared into the tunnel connecting the Mets’ dugout to their clubhouse. Moments later, a group of players and coaches -- apparently startled by something that happened in the corridor -- rushed down the steps to meet them. Whatever occurred in those few seconds remains unclear, clouded further by a series of bizarre postgame interviews in which Lindor and McNeil explained that a rodent was responsible for the commotion."

Matt Harvey doesn't show up for Saturday's game.  Mets suspend him for 3 days which means he misses Sunday's start.  Adam Wilk starts in his place, allows 6 runs - 5 earned in 3.2 innings of work.

NY Post: Matt Harvey suspended for Mets game no-show. "The struggling MLB star got slapped with a three-game suspension by the team’s brass after he failed to show up at Citi Field for Saturday’s game — reportedly because he had a headache. The Mets were so intent on punishing Harvey that they sent him home when he showed up for his scheduled start Sunday against the division-rival Miami Marlins. The decision to bench the All-Star hurler left the Mets with no choice but to start an untested rookie, who gave up five earned runs en route to a 7-0 Mets loss."
