Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets got some hits and scored some runs but it was another pitiful outing, as they fell to the Phillies, 10-5, Wednesday night in Philadelphia. They’ve now lost five of their last six games and are now 4-9 in the month of May."
NY Post: Mets crumble in sloppy loss to Phillies as struggles continue. "Joey Lucchesi, thrust into the rotation for his first start this season, lost the strike zone in a fifth inning that largely decided the game, but the left-hander wasn’t alone in sinking the Mets in their 10-5 loss to the Phillies. The Mets, who lost their third straight — and for the fifth time in six games — committed two errors and weren’t sharp on multiple other plays defensively."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets drop third straight to Phillies, losing blowout in Joey Lucchesi's season debut. "Although he did well early, Lucchesi unraveled in a hurry in the bottom of the fifth, when six consecutive batters reached base to open the inning. Three of those came via walks, when the Phillies — in Mendoza’s view — managed to take pitches just outside the strike zone after swinging at such offerings early in the game. When Lucchesi answered by throwing more strikes, the Phillies hit him."
NY Daily News: Joey Lucchesi, Mets unravel in 5th inning as they lose 3rd straight to Phillies. "It was the third straight loss to their NL East foes for the Mets, who have now lost five of their last six games."

New York Post: Brutal baserunning mistake highlights mixed Francisco Alvarez performance "Alvarez was on first in the second inning with the bases loaded and two outs in a 1-1 game. With Brandon Nimmo at the plate, Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz threw behind Alvarez and picked him off to end the second inning, taking the bat out of Nimmo’s hands."
NY Post David Peterson shelled again as Mets’ woes continue with loss to Nationals "Peterson’s starts have turned into almost automatic losses as he’s struggled with his command, particularly with his slider. On this day he allowed six earned runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings and saw his ERA bounce to 8.08. The Mets (20-22) have lost seven of the eight games he’s started this season and five straight."
Mets360 Gut Reaction: Nationals 10, Mets 3 (5/15/23) "The Mets had a chance to win a four-game series on the road. Instead, their pitchers gave up 10 runs to one of the worst offenses in the league and they ended up with a split, as they lost, 10-3, Monday afternoon in D.C."

Brian Joura Mets360: The Mets almost had another miraculous ninth inning comeback but fell just short, losing to the Mariners, 8-7, Sunday afternoon.
Metstradamus: "This game really had no business coming down to one pitch. It was one of those rare occasions where almost nobody on the Mets pitching staff (save for the new guy) had a good outing, and despite the fact that the Mets had two 2-run triples in the 4th to take a 5-4 lead, the key members of the bullpen could not hold it for them as Julio Rodriguez tied the game with a solo shot and someone named Cal Raleigh hit a home run that went to the rice ball stand to help the Mariners to an 8-5 lead."

NY Post: Mets beaten down by majors’ worst team for 5th straight loss. "The Mets fell to 7-13 since their 11-game winning streak in April, and their offensive woes were most magnified Friday, when they managed only three hits, with previously struggling Kyle Lohse throwing a two-hitter over eight innings. In 13 of their last 17 games, the Mets have scored three runs or fewer...Bartolo Colon (L,6-2) didn’t receive help defensively, but also surrendered two home runs on a night the Brewers hit three."
ESPN.com: "Flores made his ninth error in the third inning, beginning a four-run rally for Milwaukee. Mets RF Curtis Granderson misplayed Parra's run-scoring double that sailed over his head."
Despite still being in 1st place, the 5 game losing streak started making fans nervous:
Mets360: "We were lulled into a sense of confidence and promise that this year would be different. But here we are, with a “starting shortstop” who is unable to throw the baseball 120 feet to a target roughly the size of a barn door. A bench player, who despite having a slugging percentage lower than his on-base percentage, has still managed to play six out of the last seven games because the so-called manager likes what he sees. A lineup that has struck out 23 times over the past two days, while walking twice. Twice!!"

His 3rd-inning single off Chase Whitley of the Yankees breaks a record 0-for-64 drought by Mets pitchers at the plate this season. DeGrom, who had been an infielder his first couple of years in college before becoming a pitcher, also pitches very well, allowing 1 run in 7 innings, but is a hard-luck loser, 1 - 0, as Whitley, Dellin Betances, Adam Warren and David Robertson combine on a three-hit shutout. Whitley, who is also making his big league debut, gives up no runs in 4 2/3 innings and also collects his first hit, off deGrom."

The Mets (19-19) mustered only six hits as they lost for the fifth time in seven games...Heilman (L,3-3), whose role with the team is in doubt when Kaz Ishii returns this week, allowed four earned runs over 52/3 innings. He surrendered a two-run John Mabry blast in the second and a solo shot to Reggie Sanders in the fourth. Mabry victimized him again with a two-out RBI single to center in the sixth that ended his day...The Mets were down three runs before the lackluster offense managed what technically counted as a rally in the fourth. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Floyd hit a double-play grounder to first that scored Mike Cameron. Down 4-1 in the eighth, Jose Reyes hit into a 3-6-3 twin-killing right before Cameron’s third homer of the year was smoked to right-center.
