From the Mets Post Game Notes: "Mets: Dropped the final game of their three-game set with the Diamondbacks, 4-2...Was their first home series loss since August 13 - 15, 2024 vs. Athletics...Had won each of their Iast 10 series at home...It was the longest such streak in franchise history...Courtesy of Elias...Is only the second time this season they have lost back-to-back games (also: 4/15-4/16 at Minnesota)..It is the first time the Mets have lost consecutive home games since July 31, 2024 vs. Minnesota - August 13, 2024 vs. Athletics...Was the first time the Mets lost at home in back-to-back days since July 27-28, 2024 vs. Atlanta."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Juan Soto hit two home runs but he was the only Met who got the memo that there was a day game today, as the Mets dropped the rubber game of the series Thursday afternoon, 4-2, to the Diamondbacks. It was the first time sine 2017 that the D’Backs won a series at Citi Field."

Newsday: "Kodai Senga, who was bitten by the flu bug that has been circulating around the Mets’ clubhouse, decided to start anyway and gritted out a choppy four innings of one-run ball. But the bullpen, which just suffered significant losses in lefties A.J. Minter and Danny Young, coughed up runs in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings of a game in which the Mets never led."

NY Post"On a day Mendoza only received four innings from Kodai Senga and pressed Max Kranick for eight outs, he opted for a second up from Reed Garrett in the ninth inning rather than bringing in a rested Edwin Díaz in a game the Mets trailed by one...The Mets then trailed by two after Tim Tawa stroked a homer off Garrett to add an insurance run."

Newsday: "The injuries to Minter and Young have left the Mets with a revolving door of relievers. Brandon Waddell and Chris Devenski, who were called up and pitched on Wednesday, barely had time to get adjusted to their Citi Field lockers before they were sent out on Thursday. They were replaced by Genesis Cabrera, who was charged with a run in his Mets debut, and Ty Adcock, who faced four batters and retired only one of them in the ninth. Luckily for Adcock, all he needed was the one; he entered with two outs and no one on and left the bases loaded."

Joel Sherman NY Sports+: Juan Soto is winning the battle with his first Mets enemy. "....the Mets’ runs came via the first two Citi Field homers hit by Soto. Both felt Soto-esque — and not just because they were launched to left-center, though that is often a sign of Soto being locked in."

Transactions:

New York Mets released Ray Sadecki on May 2, 1977.

New York Mets signed free agent Juan Castillo on May 2, 1988.

National Pastime.com:

1968

Mets hitter Bud Harrelson becomes the first batter in baseball history to gain a 3-0 ball-strike count advantage from the on-deck circle when umpire Ed Vargo penalizes Phillies reliever John Boozer for going to his mouth inside the 18-foot circle of the mound. Philadelphia manager Gene Mauch, incensed about the ball one call, orders his pitcher to do it again for ball two, and then again for ball three, which promptly gets his right-hander and himself thrown out of the game, a 3-0 loss to New York at Shea Stadium.

1983

Jose Oquendo makes his major league debut, grounding into a force out as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning of a 3-2 loss to Houston. The 19 year-old rookie shortstop, born on July 4, 1963, is the first person to play for the Mets who is younger than the franchise, which started in 1962.

2008

Jose Reyes is thrown out at home plate in an unusual attempt to complete the cycle with an inside-the-park homer. The shortstop's four hits pace the Mets' 7-2 win over the Diamondbacks, the club's 14th victory in the last 15 games played against Arizona at Chase Field.

Baseball Reference:

1987: After having missed spring training and the first month of the season because of collusionMontreal Expos outfielder Tim Raines debuts by going 4 for 5, including a 10th-inning grand slam, in an 11 - 7 win over the New York Mets.

2010: The Phillies take over first place in the NL East by beating Mets ace Johan Santana like a rag doll. Santana gives up 10 runs, including 8 in the 4th inning, which he fails to complete. With the Mets leading 5 - 3, he issues a two-out bases-loaded walks to his opposite, Jamie Moyer, then Shane Victorino blasts a grand slam to open the floodgates. Chase Utley adds a two-run shot to chase Santana; Placido Polanco and Ryan Howard had homered earlier against him. The Phillies win, 11 - 5.

2019Noah Syndergaard of the Mets pitches a complete game shutout and also homers off Tyler Mahle for the game's only run as he defeats the Reds, 1 - 0. The last player to have managed that particular feat had been Bob Welch, back in 1983.
