From the Mets 2 White Sox 1 Post Game Notes - 5/26/2025

Mets

  • Won the first game of their three-game series against the White Sox, 2-1, in walk-off fashion...Was their fifth walk-off win of the season, tied with Boston and Minnesota for the third-most such win in the majors...Marked their 13th comeback wins of the season and their third in as many games...Have won each of their last four games decided by one run...Had lost six of their previous seven one-run games.
  • The Amazins’ have scored five or fewer runs in 13 straight games, their longest such streak since July 23 - August 8, 2021 (18 games)...Is the longest active such streak in MLB...Are 7-6 during that span.
  • Mets batters have been hit by a pitch 33 times, the most in the majors.
  • Mets are now 30-32 on Memorial Day.

Francisco Lindor (1-4, RBI, SF)

  • Recorded his third walk-off RBI of the season and the ninth such RBI of his career with a sacrifice fly in the ninth...Is the first Met since Wilmer Flores (4, 2018) to have three or more walk-off RBI in a single season.

Juan Soto (0-2, RBI, BB, SF)

  • Drove in the game-tying run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning...Was his first game-tying or go-ahead RBI in the eighth inning or later this season and his first such RBI since his walk-off single on September 12, 2024 vs. Boston with the Yankees.

Clay Holmes (5.2 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 BB, 3 K, BK)

  • Threw a career-high 102 pitches, his first career game with 100+ pitches.

Brian Joura Mets360: "Fresh off taking two out of three from the mighty Dodgers, the Mets followed up with the lowly White Sox. They were handcuffed most of the day but pulled out a walk-off win, with a 2-1 victory Monday afternoon at Citi Field. The Mets are now 33-21 on the season."

Newsday: "After getting blanked for six innings by former Met Adrian Houser, Juan Soto hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to tie it and Francisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth to win it. It was the Mets’ fifth walk-off of the season and their third comeback in as many days. They also have 13 come-from-behind wins this year."

NY Post: "Houser allowed just one base runner until the sixth inning and retired 14 in a row after Brandon Nimmo’s double with one out in the first.  Lindor finally snapped the streak with a grounder through the right side of the infield with two outs in the sixth. Nimmo then struck out to end the inning."

SNY.TV: Mets’ Drew Smith remains optimistic for potential late-season return. The right-handed reliever still faces a long road back in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he told Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com that he’s optimistic he’ll be able to return in late September or October.

Davey Johnson surpasses Gil Hodges as the winningest manager in Mets history with his 340th win, a 4-3 triumph over the Giants at Candlestick Park. The New York skipper, who has averaged 98 victories during his first three seasons, will compile a 595-417 record (.588) during his six-plus years with the team.

2012

A sign bearing the likeness of Mike Piazza connecting for his decisive eighth-inning home run in the Mets' 3-2 victory against Atlanta in the first professional sports event in New York City following the terrorist attacks of 9/11 proves to be the winning entry in the Mets' revival of Banner Day, a team tradition started in 1963 that lasted until 1996. The artwork, created by cousins Olivia Nuzzo and Stephanie Giangrande, included a section of the NYC's former skyline, with the WTC towers silhouetted above Piazza's heroic homer in mid-swing above the words, "The home run that helped heal N.Y. God Bless America. Let's Go Mets."

Baseball Reference:

2010:Mike Pelfrey pitches the Mets' third consecutive shutout over the Phillies, 3 - 0 at Citi Field. The Phillies' hitting woes started even before coming to New York, when they were shut out for eight innings by veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield two days before facing the Mets. The Mets' own knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey, baffled the Phils in the first game of the series, followed by Japanese rookie Hisanori Takahashi in the second game. The Mets have only swept a series with three shutouts one other time in their history, during their Amazin' year of 1969, also against Philadelphia.

2019 - Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers continues to have a superlative season. Today, in a 9 - 5 win over the Mets, he hits his 19th homer of the year and also throws out two baserunners. He nabs Michael Conforto at home in the 1st, and then gets Carlos Gomez at third base in the 8th, completing a double play on a throw from just in front of the warning track in right field.
