6/7/25: Mets Roster Moves - Mets trade for RHP Justin Garza, sign Julian Merryweather to a Minor League Deal

 

The New York Mets have made the following roster moves:

Per the Mets Twitter page:  The New York Mets have Justin Garza for Cash Considerations from the San Francisco Giants.

According to FanGraphs, Garza, 31 this past March, has two MiLB options remaining.  He has two MLB stints - one with Cleveland in 2021 and one with Boston in 2023.  His total Major League record is 2-3, 5.74 ERA, 38 games, 1 game as a starter, 47 innings, 1.681 WHIP, 30 walks, 46 Ks.  This year he has pitched AAA for the Giants - 19 games, all in relief, 1-2 with a 6.11 ERA.  He will be added to the 40-Man Roster and likely be sent to Syracuse for depth.

Per Anthony DiComo and others on X, the Mets have signed Julian Merryweather to a minor league deal.  Merryweather has 6 years of MLB experience.  Julian has an 0-1 record this year with the Cubs with a 5.79 ERA in 18.2 innings, 1.821 WHIP, 11 walks, 15 Ks.  According to FanGraphs, Merryweather is out of MiLB options. 

Anthony DiComo on X also noted that both pitchers throw high 90's saying: "Merryweather topped out at 99 mph earlier this season with the Cubs and has hit 102 in the past, while Garza has been up to 98 mph this year in the Minors."
