Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets blow late lead as Braves walk them off for 4th straight loss: "The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out, three-run double by Marcell Ozuna. In the bottom of the 10th, they walked off over the Mets with a sacrifice fly, handing them a 5-4 loss, their fourth straight."

Andrew Tredinnick, The Record: "Tyrone Taylor had supplied the early offensive spark against Spencer Schwellenbach, with two hits against the Braves starter, including a two-run double and a solo home run, while Juan Soto put the Mets up in the opening inning with a solo home run off the righty. But Marcell Ozuna tied the game with a bases-clearing three-run double off Garrett in the eighth inning and the Mets were held to two hits over the final five innings."

Anthony DiComo MLB.com: "Garrett, the only member of the Mets’ staff who calls his own pitches, had been one strike away from escaping a bases-loaded, no-outs jam. When Ozuna hit a check-swing foul on a 2-2 splitter, Garrett believed he could blow a fastball by him. Alvarez thought Ozuna looked so bad on the splitter that he wouldn’t be able to hit another. Ultimately, Alvarez changed the call. Garrett went with it. Ozuna yanked the splitter just fair down the left-field line at Truist Park, and the Braves later KO’d the Mets on Austin Riley’s walk-off sacrifice fly against Huascar Brazobán."

Mike Puma NY Post: "Alvarez missed an opportunity in the 10th inning when automatic runner Luke Williams started to third base on a pitch in the dirt. Williams stopped between the bases and would have been easily nailed if Alvarez threw to third, but the catcher instead fired to second."

Brian Joura Mets360: “The first game of the road trip did not disappoint, as the Mets banged out 22 hits and 14 runs in a 14-2 shellacking of the Rangers Monday night in Texas. It was the first time since 2019 that the Mets eclipsed the 20-hit mark and it was also their sixth-straight victory.”

NY Post Mets’ offense erupts again with 22 hits for sixth straight win “The Mets matched their season-high winning streak with a sixth straight victory…The Mets got contributions from just about all in winning for the 10th time in 12 games…Over their last 16 games, the Mets have outscored opponents 100-69.”

NY Post: Mets lefty David Peterson continues to prove worth in Kodai Senga’s absence “As Senga continues a deliberate rehab with the Mets from a shoulder strain — the right-hander is expected to throw a bullpen session this week…Peterson has slid into the rotation and given the Mets an opportunity to win in each of his four starts…Peterson owns a 3.97 ERA in his four starts off the injured list and the Mets are 3-1 over that stretch.”

Brian Joura Mets360: Gut Reaction: Mets 10, Marlins 4 (6/17/22) - "The Mets jumped on top early with a three-run first inning, built a 9-run lead and coasted to a 10-4 win over the Marlins Friday night in the first game played between the division rivals this year."

Metstradamus: Leading The League In The Heartwarming And The Bizarre. ""The Big Energy of the 2022 Mets went up against the Annoyance Energy of the Miami Marlins. Annoying, because as you know, they like to throw monkey wrenches in New York Mets seasons...the Annoying Energy of the Marlins is no match for the Having Your Mom In The Stands For The First Time As A Met Energy of Francisco Lindor, whose three run HR gave the Mets a 3-0 lead right off the bat."

NY Post: "Francisco Lindor treated his mother Maria (who had never seen her son play in person at Citi Field) with a three-run homer in the first inning, the loudest hit of the night. Lindor’s family surprised the shortstop in bringing his mom, who is confined to a wheelchair after a recent health episode, to the game. Francisco and Maria embraced before the first pitch."

From the Post Game Notes:

  • Pete Alonso (2-4, HR, 4 RBI, R, BB): Lined his second grand slam of the season in the sixth...Was the second grand slam of his career...One of three players with multiple grand slams this season.
  • Francisco Lindor (1-3, HR, 4 RBI, 2 R): Launched a three-run home run to center field in the first...Traveled 440 ft, his longest homer as a Met.
  • Carlos Carrasco (6.1 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K): Earned his eighth win of the season, tied for the most in the majors.

The ninth-inning party culminated with Nimmo stroking a two-run, go-ahead homer against Brad Boxberger and Cabrera following with an insurance blast in a 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field."

In a play that is indicative of the struggling Mets, first baseman Marv Throneberry's apparent first-inning triple becomes an out on an appeal play for missing second base in an 8-7 loss to the Cubs at the Polo Grounds. Whe n New York manager Casey Stengel questions the call, he is told by the umpire, according to legend, "Don't bother arguing, Casey, he missed first base, too."

Gene Woodling, purchased from the Senators for a reported $45,000, substantially more than the $20,000 waiver fee, becomes the first major leaguer to play for the Yankees and the Mets. In his National League debut, the 39-year-old outfielder goes 2-for-4, scoring two runs for the new expansion team in an 8-7 loss to the Cubs at the Polo Grounds.
