Brian Joura Mets360: The Mets broke a scoreless tie by putting up crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth innings en route to a 6-3 win over the Nationals Tuesday night in Washington. The victory gives the Mets the series win and the club will go for a sweep Wednesday afternoon.

NY Post: David Peterson has strong outing to propel Mets past Nationals. "The left-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts over 6 ²/₃ innings, departing after 81 pitches. The Mets (26-35) won their second straight — their first series victory since May 6-7 in St. Louis — and will have a shot on Wednesday at their first three-game sweep since April 15-17 against the Pirates...Harrison Bader’s two-run homer against DJ Herz in the fourth accounted for the game’s first scoring...The Mets broke out in the fifth, when Marte’s two-run triple extended the lead to 4-0...Mark Vientos’ ensuing sacrifice fly gave the Mets a 5-0 lead."

From the Blue Jays 6 Mets 4 - Post Game Notes:

  • Mets: Were sept for the thirs time this season...Was their first time ever being swept by the Blue Jays...Hit four home runs in a game for the second time this season (Also May 9 at Cincinnati)...Was their first game with four home runs at Citi Field since October 4, 2022 vs. Washington.
  • Tommy Pham: Recorded his ninth career multi-home run game and his first since April 10, 2019 at Chicago-AL with Tampa Bay...Has four extra-base hits in his last two starts.
  • Pete Alonso: His his 72nd career home run at Citi Field, thos most in ballpark's history...was his major league-leading 21st home run.

  • Kodai Senga: Made his first start on four days rest...was the shortest outing of his career.
Joel Sherman NY Post:  Maybe this drastically inconsistent team is exactly who the 2023 Mets are.  "The Mets completed a homestand that defined their 2023 squad to date — inspiring enough to sweep three from the Phillies, inadequate enough to be swept three by the Blue Jays...In fact, they lost 6-4 on Sunday to the Blue Jays due to breakdowns in each area of the game — starting, relieving, defense and hitting."

Metstradamus: The Big Generator. "This was a huge victory for the Mets. Even if it’s the only win they get this weekend, nine runs in a game started by Walker Buehler has to at least let them breathe."

NY Post: Daniel Murphy injury clouds brilliant Matt Harvey in Mets win. "Call it a win-lose for the Mets. They desperately needed a victory and got one, beating the Diamondbacks 6-2 at Chase Field behind Harvey’s seven strong innings to move into first place in the NL East...the Mets received yet another punch to the gut, with Murphy leaving the game in the third inning because of tightness in his left quadriceps...The Mets, who snapped a two-game skid, got the offensive thunder they needed from John Mayberry Jr., who finished 4-for-5 with a two-run homer in the ninth. Harvey (W,6-3) gave the Mets a chance by allowing two earned runs on six hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts and one walk."

National Pastime.comAfter going 1-for-11 in his first four games, Lastings Milledge collects three hits, including his first big league dinger. The two-run home run off Giants All-Star closer Armando Benitez, which ties the game in the tenth, sparks controversy when the Mets rookie, on his way to his position in right field in the 11th inning, high fives some of the Shea Stadium fans in the front row, much to the displeasure to many players in both dugouts.

Mets lose in the 12th however when Pedro Feliciano and Heath Bell allow a run to score.

NY Post: No Bunts about it; Beltrans's Sacrifice Right Move for Mets. "It seemed incomprehensible at the time: Carlos Beltran laying down a sacrifice...A funny thing happened, though, when Beltran laid down his bunt with runners at first and second and nobody out: The next three hitters rapped base hits, and the Mets scored three times on their way to a 5-1 victory over the Giants...Mike Cameron staked Glavine to a 1-0 lead with a monster shot over the fence in right-center in the first, continuing his 2005 tear with his seventh homer. But Glavine worked like he was pitching with a 10-run lead, masterfully keeping the Giants off-balance. With two outs and one on in the eighth, Glavine exited for Roberto Hernandez and answered a rousing ovation from 37,194 with a brief tip of the cap. Hernandez escaped a jam, the Mets tacked on another run in the eighth, and Aaron Heilman finished the game."

Mets win their 7th in a row as they shutout the Dodgers for 15 innings, Jack DiLauro - 9 scoreless, Tub McGraw 4 more and Ron Taylor the final two.

Sabr.org: "In the top of the 15th, the Dodgers threatened, putting runners at the corners with one out. Willie Davis was the hitter and he hit a grounder off pitcher Ron Taylor that caromed towards second base. Al Weis charged the ball, made a barehand play and threw home just in time for catcher Jerry Grote to get incoming baserunner Billy Grabarkewitz at home plate. On the Mets highlight album that season, Miracle Mets, that moment is re-created by Bob Murphy, who states “Oh, what a play by Al Weis! I’ve never seen a better one by an infielder.” The Mets stole the game in the bottom of the 15th, when with one out, Tommie Agee scored all the way from first when Davis misplayed Wayne Garrett’s single to center. That gave the Mets a sweep of the Dodgers and matched a team record with their seventh straight win."
