Brian Joura Mets360: "After having their seven-game win streak snapped their last time out, the Mets got right back in the win column Friday afternoon, as they slugged three homers en route to an 11-1 win over the Cubs in Chicago. The Mets have now won 12 of their last 15 games. Francisco Lindor led off the game with a double, followed by a Brandon Nimmo walk and a three-run homer by J.D. Martinez and the rout was on. Francisco Alvarez and Nimmo both homered in the second inning, with Nimmo’s being a two-run blast to the opposite field."

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets’ bats shut down star rookie Shota Imanaga in beatdown over Cubs. "Jose Iglesias added to the attack with a 4-for-5 performance.“

Brian Joura Mets360“There’s no cure for bad pitching.” That’s what Gary Cohen said during the game. And given that the Mets had 10 hits, eight walks, eight runs and still lost, it’s kind of hard to argue with that. Tylor Megill turned back into a pumpkin and the Mets’ troubles continue to mount with a 10-8 loss to the Astros Wednesday afternoon in Houston."

NY Post: Tylor Megill turns in Mets clunker after bout of wildness. "Megill, who was solid for six innings last Friday in a win over the Cardinals, followed that up by allowing five runs (four earned) while recording just seven outs Wednesday in a 10-8 loss to the Astros....It all came apart in the bottom of the third, which the Mets entered with a 4-2 edge. Megill faced four hitters and retired only one. The final blow was a two-run single from Corey Julks that tied the score. Megill was pulled for Dominic Leone, who was not much better on a rough day for the Mets’ pitching staff.

NY Post: Mets and Trevor Williams get pounded in ugly loss to Astros. "The loss was the Mets’ seventh straight in this ballpark, dating to 2011 when the Astros still played in the National League. The Mets are in town for the first time since 2017. Even with the loss, the Mets (45-25) maintained their 5 ½-game lead on the Braves in the NL East."

NY Post: Jacob deGrom puts Mets’ injury concerns to rest in Game 1 win over Braves. “Most importantly to the Mets, for the first time in three starts their ace finished his performance without some kind of discomfort.”

Mets.com: deGrom's ERA at 0.50 after baffling Braves. Ace runs scoreless streak to 30 IP, records 12th straight start with one or zero earned runs.” The only hit off deGrom came on a Kevan Smith fly ball to left-center that dropped between outfielders Dominic Smith and Albert Almora Jr., who both had a play on the ball.”

Mets.com: Stat of the day - “In delivering five shutout innings in Game 1 of the Mets' doubleheader on Monday, Jacob deGrom submitted his 12th straight start with zero or one earned runs. That snapped a tie with Bob Gibson for the most consecutively in a single season in Major League history by a traditional starting pitcher (since earned runs became an official stat in 1912).”

NY Post: Dominic Smith wouldn’t let Jacob deGrom’s gem be wasted. “Smith lined the sixth pitch of an at-bat into the right-field corner for a two-out bases-clearing three-run double that provided the necessary insurance Monday in a 4-2 victory over the Braves.”

NY Post: Mets’ Jacob deGrom first pitcher checked for foreign substances under new MLB protocol. “After deGrom retired the Braves in order in the top of the first inning, three umpires, including home plate’s Ben May and crew chief Ron Kulpa, cornered him before he reached the dugout to look at his glove, hat and belt. The Citi Field crowd booed and then cheered when deGrom was cleared.”

SNY.TV: Mets' Jacob deGrom passes inspection for sticky substances. The umpires checked deGrom after the first and fifth innings.

SNY.TV: Mets takeaways from Monday's 1-0 loss in Game 2 to Braves, including poor baserunning. Jerad Eickhoff threw four scoreless innings and allowed just three hits.

Mets.com: Eickhoff steady on hill for banged-up Mets. “Rojas asked Miguel Castro to enter for the fifth. Castro promptly served up a Ronald Acuña Jr. solo homer, which proved to be the difference.”

Amazing Avenue: Final score: Braves 1, Mets 0—How not to run the bases.

Metstradamus: “Back in the 2nd inning with the score still 0-0, Pete Alonso was thrown out at third as he was trying to go first to third on a hit by Dom Smith…Jonathan Villar hit a one out double to knock Ian Anderson out of the game…{pinch runner] Jose Peraza comes in and makes the mistake that they teach you to avoid in rookie ball: He tried to take third on a ground ball to shortstop.

NY Post. Mets’ bullpen relay team comes up huge in inspiring win. "In possibly their most inspired victory of the season, the Mets received 8 ²/₃ terrific innings from their bullpen after Bartolo Colon was injured and beat the Royals 2-1 at Citi Field....Colon took a line drive off his right hand and had to be removed only four pitches into the game...[Hansel] Robles, most notably, helped keep the Mets afloat, pitching 3 ²/₃ innings in which he allowed one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk. The relief outing was the longest of Robles’ major league career."

Mike Puma NY Post: Pitiful Mets shut out, waste Harvey gem for 5th straight loss. "The Mets (36-35) fell 1 ½ games behind the Nationals in the NL East, and now have the Braves (35-35) on their heels for second, a half length behind them...There’s anemic, and then there’s barely breathing. The Mets fall into the latter category with six runs over their last five games. In four of those games the Mets scored one run or less."

National Pastime.com: Jose Reyes becomes the ninth player in Mets history to hit for the cycle. The 23 year-old shortstop hits a leadoff homer in the first, followed by a double in the third, then a triple in the fifth, and completes the feat with an eighth-inning single in the team's 6-5 loss to the Reds at Shea Stadium.

Despite Jose Reyes already hitting 3/4 of the cycle (HR, Triple and Double), Mets were down 4-2 in the 7th.  A David Wright double and a Jose Valentin HR gave the Mets a 5-4 lead.  After getting the first two outs in the 9th, Billy Wagner loaded the bases on two walks and a single before Brandon Phillips singled in two giving the Reds the lead.  Carlos Beltran led off the 9th with a walk but then Carlos Delgado flied out and David Wright grounded into a double play to end it.

NY Post: ‘O’ SO GOOD! METS END SKID AT 3 AS BATS FINALLY ERUPT. "Last night the Mets punished the Phillies’ pitchers, scoring eight runs and rapping 14 hits in grabbing a much-needed 8-5 win. The offense got several strong performances. Jose Reyes had three hits and two runs scored, the first of which he created with his dazzling speed. Carlos Beltran, who said before the game that his strained right quad was an encouraging “90 percent,” collected two hits and two RBIs and made a sliding catch. And Doug Mientkiewicz homered, doubled and scored twice."

NY Post: "With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Mo Vaughn checked his swing. His initial reaction when he hit a soft grounder toward third – like everyone else surrounding the Mets – was, 'Oh, no.' Everyone except Tony Tarasco, that is. Tarasco’s heads-up baserunning from second in a tie game allowed him to score the winning run on Vaughn’s infield single last night. It allowed the Mets to come back against Kansas City and post a 4-3 victory, their third straight win....In the top of the ninth, Raul Ibanez hit a one-out triple to right-center... Scott Strickland fell behind pinch-hitter Luis Alicea and walked him intentionally to put runners at the corners. Mark Guthrie (2-0) entered and froze pinch-hitter Brent Mayne on a wicked curve on a full count. After walking Febles, Perez grounded the first pitch to Alfonzo for an inning-ending forceout."
