Brian Joura Mets360: “Trailing 1-0, Francisco Lindor led off the bottom of the first and homered to tie things up. Brandon Nimmo singled, followed by a J.D. Martinez walk and a Pete Alonso homer to make it 4-1 before they made an out.”

NY Post: Mets' offense explodes with 11-run outburst to complete sweep of Padres “Carlos Mendoza’s group knocked out 14 hits total — every member of the starting lineup reached base — and scored seven times in the first four innings, building a sizable lead that they would need because of a shaky relief corps.”

NY Post: Mets’ Tylor Megill starting to finally hitting stride after another solid outing “…with Sunday just his sixth start of the season after suffering a shoulder strain in his first outing back in March…Five starts post-return and Megill’s ERA is sitting at 3.52 — a career-best by nearly a full run.”

Anthony Rieber Newsday: Mets erupt for 11 runs to sweep Padres and earn fifth straight win. [In the 8th]…“It was 7-6. With Kim on second, Luis Arraez lined a two-out single to right. Marte, back in the lineup after missing a game with a knee injury, fired a strike to the plate, and Kim did not dare to try to score.  Smith then struck out Fernando Tatis Jr. to end the inning.”

NY Post: Historic Mets on-base streak by J.D. Martinez ended against Padres “Finally, after 10 tries, the Padres got J.D. Martinez out…Since [being struck out on Friday in the 6th]…he had walked five times, hit two home runs, doubled and singled twice.”

KRCGTV.com: Megill, Vogelbach snap out of slumps as the Metsdeck the skidding Cardinals 6-1. “Tylor Megill earned his first win since last month, slumping Daniel Vogelbach homered in his return to the lineup and the Mets beat the skidding Cardinals 6-1 on Friday night in a series opener between two of baseball’s most disappointing teams.”

Brian Joura Mets360: “The Mets scored three runs in the first inning and Tylor Megill turned in his best start in ages, leading the Mets to a 6-1 win over the Cardinals Friday night in Citi Field. Brett Baty delivered the big hit in the first inning, with a two-run double. He helped turn around things after Francisco Lindor hit into a 1-2-3 double play that made it look like the Mets might squander a bases loaded, no out situation. Tommy Pham followed with an RBI single, the first of two RBIs for him in the game.”

Mets.com: Vogelbach snaps HR drought in return to lineup. “Daniel Vogelbach needed it in a big way. His sixth-inning blast gave the Mets their final run in New York's 6-1 victory over the Cardinals on Friday night at Citi Field.”

From the Mets 5 Brewers 4 - Post Game Notes

  • Nick Plummer (0-2, RBI, BB, R): Gave the Mets the lead with a fielder's choice in the eighth...Had an outfield assist to cut down the would-be tying run in the ninth inning.
  • Mark Canha (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB): Tied the game with a two-run home run in the fifth...Was his first home run in his last 67 at-bats.
  • Luis Guillorme (2-4): Has 13 multi-hit games this season, matching his total from the last two seasons combined.
  • Edwin Díaz (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K): Is the first relief pitcher to reach the 50-strikeout mark this season...Has a season-high seven consecutive scoreless outings.
  • Tylor Megill (3.1 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, BB, 6 K): Left the game with right shoulder discomfort...Will undergo imaging tomorrow.
  • Seth Lugo (2.0 IP, H, 4 K): Had four strikeouts, the most in a game as a relief pitcher since 9/9/19...Has a 1.42 ERA (two earned runs/12.2 innings) in his last 10 games.

NY Post: Mets capitalize on Brewers’ blunders in comeback win to take series. "They needed to be the better defensive team, and they were. The game was saved technically by Edwin Diaz, but in reality by rookie Nick Plummer, Pete Alonso and Tomas Nido. Not the defensive trio you would expect."

Brian Joura Mets360.com: "The Brewers gifted the Mets the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning and got a runner thrown out at the plate in the top of the ninth, handing the Mets a 5-4 win Thursday night at Citi Field. With the win, the Mets take the series and pick up a half game on the idle Braves."

Carrasco that allows Diory Hernandez to score the winning run. Before coming back, the Braves blow a 6 - 2 lead by giving up a four-run 5th inning to the Mets. Chipper Jones drives in 5 runs, tying a career best.

A wild extra inning contest saw the Mets on the losing end after 16 innings.  Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead by scoring single runs in the 1st and 2nd.  Mets starter Bobby Jones didn't allow the 'Stros to score any more as he went 10 innings in the no decision.  A Bobby Bonilla single brought home Rico Brogna to tie the game at 2 in the 6th.  In the 12th, Brian Hunter doubled in a run off John Franco to put the Astros up 3-2 but the Mets came right back to tie it again in the bottom of the inning on a Jose Vizcaino groundout.  Doug Henry allowed back to back homers to Brian Hunter and Craig Biggio to start the 15th, but again the Mets tied it in the bottom of the inning as Brett Butler's bases loaded single drove in Joe Orsulak and Todd Hundley.  Jeff Bagwell's 2-run single put Houston back up 7-5 in the 16th.  Mets had no more fight left in them as they went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning to end it.
