Mets.Com: 'They know me pretty well': Longtime teammates best Verlander

Metstradamus: "Justin Verlander was okay. He went seven innings whihc is good for the bullpen, I guess. He gave up four runs, which isn’t great. But Alex Bregman’s two run HR was the epitome of knowing your former teammate, as he moved up in the box on 3-0 and took a rip, and Jose Altuve hit his curveball in the 7th like he knew it was coming."

From the Post Game Notes

  • Mets: Earned their second consecutive sweep...Was their first perfect homestand of six or games since they went 10-0 from 4/13/15 - 4/23/15....Extended their season-high winning streak to six games...Recorded their league-leading ninth shutout of the season...Was their first time posting back-to-back shutouts since 7/21/21 at CIN (7-0) and 7/23/21 (3-0) vs. TOR...Mets pitchers have tossed 21.0 straight scoreless innings.
  • Tomás Nido (4-4, 2B, 3 RBI, R): Picked up his first career four-hit game...Is the first Mets catcher with four hits in a game since Wilson Ramos did so on 8/31/19 at PHI.
  • Francisco Lindor (1-3, RBI): Extended his career-high RBI streak to 10 games with a sacrifice fly in the seventh... Is tied with Mike Piazza (1999) for the second longest RBI streak in franchise history.
  • Carlos Carrasco (5.0 IP, 4 H, 5 BB, 5 K): Won his fifth consecutive decision.

Brian Joura Mets360: "Four pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout, lifting the Mets to a 5-0 win over the Nationals Wednesday afternoon and a sweep of the three-game series...You know things are pretty good when the Mets put 13 runners on base, score five runs and it feels like a so-so offensive performance. The hitting star of the day was Tomas Nido, who went 4-4 while hitting in the ninth spot in the order, with a run and 3 RBIs."

NY Post : Mets’ Carlos Carrasco ‘almost cried’ after gritty outing in front of dad. "Carlos Carrasco didn’t necessarily turn in his best performance Wednesday afternoon, but he did have one of his most memorable ones. For the first time in his 13-year big league career, his father, Luis, was in the crowd watching him pitch. And after the Mets pulled out the win, they surprised Carrasco by having his father present him with the team’s wrestling-style belt as the player of the game."

Mike Puma NY Post: Kyle Schwarber’s three home runs torment Mets in loss to Nationals. “The momentum of their previous week, when they beat up on the Padres and Cubs — two legitimate playoff contenders — has dissipated and now the Mets have to figure out how to survive a steady diet of NL East competition.”

MLB.com: Schwarber ties MLB record: 5 HR in 2 games

Brain Joura Mets360: “Walker left with the Mets trailing, 3-2. But Jeurys Familia came on and gave up Schwarber’s third homer of the game. Remember when all the hits off Familia were bleeders? Good times, good times. Familia has now given up 8 ER in his last 11.2 IP.”

NY Post: Mets add 4th straight loss to run of d’Arnaud, Familia bad news.  "A blah week got even worse for the Mets on Saturday, with catcher Travis d’Arnaud removed from the game with a hyperextended left elbow, uncertainty lingering about Jeurys Familia and the team’s recent defensive deficiencies nowhere close to dissipating. Amid the gloom, the Mets lost their fourth straight, 6-4 to the Braves at Turner Field, to fall a half-game behind the Nationals in the NL East. “I don’t think we need to panic,” manager Terry Collins said after the Mets committed two errors, on a night Noah Syndergaard wasn’t particularly sharp."

Noah Syndergaard allowed 4 runs, 3 earned due to a Travis d'Arnaud error, over a 4 innings to put the Mets down 4-2 after they had scored 2 in the 1st.  Curtis Granderson and Travis d'Arnaud with solo homers tied the game at 4.  Jack Leathersich retired the side in order in the 5th but was removed after allowing a leadoff double to A.J. Pierzynski in the 6th.  Logan Verrett came in and the Braves loaded the bases on an Andrelton Simmons infield single and Eury Perez bunt single with no outs.  The winning runs later scored on a Sac Fly and a Groundout.  Mets just managed 3 singles the rest of the way for the loss.
