NY Post: Sean Manaea’s Mets start goes from good to bad in blink of eye: ‘Just a blur’. "It was a second straight clunker from Manea...he struggled in the fourth inning after a strong start to the game...Manager Carlos Mendoza tried to get Manaea through the inning, but that decision backfired as Cristian Pache doubled and Kyle Schwarber delivered an RBI single."

Mets360: Gut Reaction: Braves 13, Mets 10 (10 INN) 6/8/23 "The Mets had leads of 6-3, 9-5 and 10-7 and couldn’t hold them. They had the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning and couldn’t push home an insurance run. And they ended up on the very wrong end of a 13-10 score in extra innings against the Braves, getting swept for the second straight series."

Orlando Arcia homered off David Robertson to send the game to extras and Ozzie Albies 3-run dinger walked it off for the Braves.

NY Post: Mets finally put up some runs but need extras to avoid sweep. "One Wilmer Flores jam-shot to center field Wednesday might as well have been a blast into the Allegheny River. Flores’ pinch-hit bloop in the 10th inning came nowhere close to water, but touched grass not far behind second base, bringing home the go-ahead run for the Mets in their 6-5 victory over the Pirates that snapped their three-game losing streak...Jeurys Familia staggered to the save, walking three batters in the 10th before striking out David Freese for the final out, snapping the Pirates’ nine-game winning streak against the Mets dating to 2014."

Baseball Reference: For only the second time in major league history, two games go 18 innings on the same day. First, the Blue Jays defeat the Rangers, 4 - 3, when Rajai Davis drives in Emilio Bonifacio with a two-out single in the 18th inning. Ross Wolf is the unlucky loser after 6 2/3 innings of work. It's the longest game in both teams' history, but it's not even the longest on the day, as the Marlins need 20 innings to defeat the Mets, 2 - 1, tying for the longest game in their history, and the longest played at Citi Field. Adeiny Hechevarria drives in the go-ahead run and Steve Cishek gets the final out after 6 hours and 20 minutes. The game almost ends in the 12th, but Marlins RF Marcell Ozuna throws Daniel Murphy out at the plate to prolong the game. Starters Shaun Marcum and Kevin Slowey then come in to pitch in the 13th, and both pitch scoreless ball until the 20th. Marcum falls to 0-7 in spite of his tremendous effort.

But his outing seemed like it came from two different pitchers – after he retired the first 10 hitters and owned a 1-0 lead after 3 1/3 innings, he allowed eight of the next 14 Astros to reach and trailed 3-1 after six...With one out, Mike Cameron walked (he would draw three of them) and Carlos Beltran singled. One out later, Ramon Castro (subbing for Mike Piazza, who departed after the top of the first with a left wrist contusion) doubled to left, making it 1-0."

Braves score 5 off Mets starter Tom Hall in the 5th to take a 5-2 lead but the Mets came to tie in against ex-Met Buzz Capra in the bottom of the inning as Joe Torre tripled in two and Rusty Staub drove in Torre on a groundout.  After the Braves retook the lead in the 6th, Joe Torre tied it again with an RBI single in the 7th.  Game stayed tied until the 14th when an Elias Sosa bases loaded wild pitch to Gene Clines scored Felix Millan for the walk-off win.

Game 1 - Charlie Neal's bases loaded sac fly in the 9th broke a 3-3 tie to make a winner out of Jay Hook (4-6).  Jay held 30% of the Mets 13 wins.

Game 2 - Ron Santo's bases loaded single in the 7th drove in two breaking a 1-1 tie. "The Righty" Bob Miller took the loss falling to 0-4 on the year.  Jay Hook pinch hit for Miller with the tying run on 3rd in the 8th but struck-out.
