Brian Joura Mets360: "Francisco Lindor led off the game with a homer and the Mets are now 27-0 in their last 27 regular season games where Lindor goes deep. They also won two games in the playoffs when he homered. The Mets extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning, with Brandon Nimmo delivering a rule-book double that scored Jeff McNeil."
Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: Paul Blackburn is no longer the forgotten Mets pitcher after loud Dodgers statement. "Three times, the incomparable Shohei Ohtani batted against Blackburn, the soft-tossing right-hander who was making his 2025 debut. And all three times Blackburn won the battle. Twice Blackburn struck out Ohtani, then on Blackburn’s final pitch on his fantastic night at gorgeous Dodger Stadium, he got Ohtani to ground out with two runners on to finish his five scoreless innings." NY Post: Mets survive frantic Dodgers rally late to open series with thrilling 10-inning win. "After Edwin DÃaz, working for the third time in four days, blew the save by allowing a run in the ninth, the Mets rebounded against lefty fireballer Tanner Scott in the 10th inning. Francisco Alvarez delivered a go-ahead double, scoring the automatic runner, before Francisco Lindor’s RBI single extended the lead."
Newsday: "Jose Castillo kicked off the bottom of the 10th by walking Freddie Freeman; Andy Pages’ single drove in Teoscar Hernandez from second to draw the Dodgers to within 4-3. Max Muncy struck out swinging to bring up pinch hitter Will Smith with one out. Carlos Mendoza then summoned Jose Butto from the bullpen. Butto got Smith to fly out to center, moving Freeman to third base and bringing up Tommy Edman. On his bobblehead giveaway day, Edman, named MVP in the NLCS that knocked the Mets out of the playoffs last year, hit a comebacker to end the threat."

1969 | Tom Seaver strikes out 14 batters in eight innings en route to the Mets' 5-2 win over L.A. at Shea Stadium. The victory, fueled by Ed Kranepool's two home runs, improves the second-place team's record to 24-23, the latest they have been above .500 in franchise history. |
1980 | The Mets select 18 year-old Darryl Strawberry as the team's number one pick in the June draft. During his stormy eight-year tenure with the team, the 6' 6" outfielder will establish franchise records with 252 homers and 733 RBIs. |
1981 | Returning as a free agent after a two-year absence from the game, Royals catcher Jerry Grote hits his first home run since 1976. The former Astro and Mets backstop's grand slam helps Kansas City overcome the Mariners, 12-9. |
1990 | Appearing as a pinch-hitter in the top of the eighth inning, Dave Liddell, playing in his only major league game, singles in his lone plate appearance. The Mets' 23 year-old catcher will stay in the contest, catching the remainder of the team's 6-3 loss at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium. |
2012 | In a pregame ceremony at Citi Field, John Franco becomes the 26th member of the Mets Hall of Fame. The former southpaw reliever, who also played for Cincinnati and Houston, leads all lefties in all-time saves with 424, which includes 276 for the Mets, a franchise record. |
2006 - In a long day at Shea Stadium, rookie catcher Eliezer Alfonzo hits a two-run home run for his first major league hit, helping the San Francisco Giants to a 6 - 4 victory over the New York Mets in the first game of a doubleheader, which ends after 3 hours, 12 minutes. In the second game, already delayed 2 1/2 hours by rain, the Mets win 3 - 2, in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Lastings Milledge scores the winning run on a short sacrifice fly by Chris Woodward. The twin bill ends close to 11 p.m. ET.
2012: The Mets complete a three-game sweep of the Cardinals with a 6 - 1 win to reach a virtual tie for first place in the NL East. Jon Niese strikes out a career-high 10 batters in 6 innings before leaving because of an accelerated heart beat. Kirk Nieuwenhuis hits a homer and drives in 3 runs. The Cards lost the first two games of the series by shutout, including Johan Santana's no-hitter on June 1st, and finally end their 26-inning scoring drought in the 8th, on an RBI single by Adron Chambers.
2016: The Marlins get some unwanted publicity when they are the first to publicly announce the death of boxing great Muhammad Ali on the Marlins Park scoreboard at the end of tonight's game against the Mets. Team President David Samson had heard the news from a person close to Ali, but had not realized the family had not made the news public when he calls on the scoreboard operators to pay tribute.
