Laura Albanese Newsday: "Max Muncy hit a game-tying homer off Huascar Brazoban in the ninth — his second of the game — after the Mets had climbed out of a 4-1 first-inning hole. Tanner Scott set down the Mets in order in the 10th, and with one out and two on against Jose Butto in the bottom of the inning, Freeman hit what seemed a catchable ball to Nimmo. Instead, it hit off the base of the wall to win it."

Andrew Redinnick The Record: "The Mets, who used six relievers to nail down the series-opening victory, ran out of steam and wasted a gritty effort from Tylor Megill, who shook off a four-run opening inning to deliver six crucial innings."

Mike Puma NY Post: "Lefty Brandon Waddell pitched the seventh scoreless before Reed Garrett, facing the top of the order, escaped the eighth with the lead after the tying run reached third base with nobody out."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Juan Soto hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to a single run. And the Mets took the lead in the fifth inning, as Alonso hit an RBI double and Nimmo beat out an infield single, thanks to a successful challenge by Mendoza, where their fifth run scored."

1976

Mets right fielder Dave Kingman, in the team's 11-0 victory at Dodger Stadium, hits three home runs. Sky King's two-run dinger and two three-run round-trippers drive in eight runs, a new club record.

1980

Mets right-hander Pat Zachry (7) and Neil Allen (3) combine to throw a three-hitter against the Cardinals at Shea Stadium. Unfortunately for the Mets, the third Redbird hit is a home run by Ken Reitz leading off the tenth inning of team’s eventual 1-0 loss to St. Louis.

1980

At Shea Stadium, Jim Kaat, recently traded from the Yankees, goes the distance when the Cardinal left-hander blanks the Mets in 10 innings, 1-0. The 41 year-old hurler, who didn't start a game last season, gets the victory thanks to third baseman Ken Reitz's extra inning solo home run.

1998

The Dodgers trade the 1995 National League Rookie of the Year Hideo Nomo (2-7 with a 5.05 ERA) and reliever Brad Clontz to the Mets for pitchers Dave Mlicki and Greg McMichael.

2000

Esteban Yan becomes the 14th player in baseball history to hit the first pitch thrown to him in a professional game for home run. In addition to his historic homer, the Devil Rays hurler picks up the victory in the interleague contest against the Mets.

2003

At Puerto Rico's Hiram Bithorn Stadium, Jeff DaVanon of the Angels joins Lee May (1969, Reds), Frank Thomas (1962, Mets), and Gus Zernial (1951, A's) as the fourth player to have three consecutive multi-homer games. At the same time, the Anaheim outfielder also becomes the third player to do it from both sides of the plate in two back-to-back contests, matching Ken Caminiti (1995, Padres) and Eddie Murray (1987, Orioles).

2006

After going 1-for-11 in his first four games, Lastings Milledge collects three hits, including his first big league dinger. The two-run home run off Giants All-Star closer Armando Benitez, which ties the game in the tenth, sparks controversy when the Mets rookie, on his way to his position in right field in the 11th inning, high fives some of the Shea Stadium fans in the front row, much to the displeasure to many players in both dugouts.

 Baseball Reference:

1968At Wrigley Field‚ the Mets' Jerry Koosman strikes out the leadoff Cub for his 7th straight strikeout‚ then wins, 2 - 0.

1984The New York Mets select 17-year-old Shawn Abner with the first pick in the annual June free-agent draft. Thirteen members of the U.S. Olympic team are drafted in the first round‚ including Mark McGwire by the A's with the 10th pick.
