Mets prospect struck out 8 consecutive batters last Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 2, 2025) – Minor League Baseball announced today that St. Lucie Mets pitcher Wellington Aracena has been named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 26-June 1.
Aracena made one start last week on Tuesday night and dominated for 5.0 innings against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Aracena struck out the second batter he faced and that began a streak of eight consecutive strikeouts for the right hander.
Aracena finished his outing with 10 total strikeouts, the most for a St. Lucie pitcher this year. He gave up just one hit and one unearned run. Aracena received a no-decision. The Mets went on to win the game 6-2.
Aracena, 20, was signed by the Mets as an international free agent from Mao, Dominican Republic in 2022.
