With their 2nd pick of the night, 3rd Round, the New York Mets select Antonio Jimenez, Bats Right, Throws Right. 21 years old. DOB: 6/15/2004. 6'1", 200 pounds.
From the New York Mets Press Release: "Jimenez, a right-handed hitting infielder, spent his sophomore year at the University of Central Florida where he appeared in 55 games. He earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors after batting .329/.407/.575 with 55 runs, 14 doubles, two triples, 11 homers and 51 RBI. The Davie, FL native spent one season at the University of Miami before transferring to UCF. He was a four-year letterman at Archbishop McCarthy High School and served as captain in his final year."
MLB Pipeline: A strong right-handed hitter...he’ll show off at least above-average raw power to his pull side, getting to it consistently in games this year. He can go the other way at times, but without as much impact. He absolutely crushes fastballs but struggles with softer stuff, as he has a tendency to chase breaking balls out of the zone...Jimenez’s standout defensive tool is his easily plus arm that works from anywhere on the infield."
Baseball America: "Jimenez is a draft-eligible shortstop who started his college career with Miami but transferred to Central Florida for the 2025 season...His track record prior to this season may give some teams pause considering his struggles at Miami and in a 39-game sample in the Cape Cod League in 2024...Others might be swayed by his improved penchant for hard-hit contact and impressive in-zone contact rates this spring.
