METS ACQUIRE ALL-STAR RHP RYAN HELSLEY - PRESS RELEASE AND STATS

 

 

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 30, 2025 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has acquired RHP Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor leaguers INF Jesus Baez, RHP Nate Dohm and RHP Frank Elissalt.

 

Helsley, 31, has appeared in 36 games for the Cardinals this year, going 3-1 with 21 saves and a 3.00 ERA (12 ER/36.0 IP), 14 walks and 41 strikeouts. He entered the day ranking fifth in the National League with 21 saves and tied for eighth with 29 games finished. Since the start of 2024 season, Helsley ranks second in the majors with 70 saves.

 

The right-handed pitcher has appeared in 275 Major League games all with the Cardinals, posting a 31-15 record with 105 saves, a 2.67 ERA (89 ER/299.2 IP), 121 walks and 355 strikeouts. He was twice named to the All-Star team, in 2022 and again in 2024. Last season, Helsey led all of Major League Baseball with 49 saves, finishing 7-4 with a 2.04 ERA (15 ER/66.1 IP), 23 walks and 79 strikeouts. He capped off the season by being named the 2024 winner of the Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award.

 

The Tahlequah, OK native was selected by the Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.

 

Baez was signed was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on January 15, 2022. Dohm was selected in the third round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Mississippi State, while Elissalt was taken in the 19^th round of the same draft out of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
