Tim Healey Newsday: Tylor Megill gives up three home runs, Mets get only four hits in loss to Atlanta

NY Post: Mets’ bats go cold against Braves rookie as win streak ends at five. "The Mets were overmatched against Atlanta rookie right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach, who struck out 11 and gave up just two hits in seven scoreless innings. The loss ended the Mets’ five-game winning streak and knocked them from the top of the NL wild-card race just a day after they bumped the Braves into second."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Megill retired the first 10 batters he faced but then was done in by the gopher ball. He gave up back-to-back homers in the fourth inning, a scratch run in the fifth and a leadoff home run in the seventh. He fell to 2-5 on the year and saw his ERA go up to 5.20 for the season."

Pete Alonso, Dom Smith and Michael Conforto all homer as the Mets beat the Red Sox 7-4.

SNY.TV: Michael Wacha solid in Mets debut, slows Red Sox bats over five innings. Wacha's changeup and cutter were on point in his 77-pitch outing.

NY Post: Michael Wacha superb in his Mets debut.

Brian Joura Mets360.com: Robinson Cano took the collar and is now 1-12 on the season. It’s nice that he’s not batting third and it’s good to see him being removed for defensive purposes. Now there’s only one move left to make. Hopefully J.D. Davis is still taking grounders at third base.

Metstradamus: A Nice Beantown Surprise. “But Michael Wacha was a nice surprise. One run in five innings with four strikeouts doesn’t sound all that spectacular, but for what was expected of Wacha, and for what happened yesterday [Sunday], it’s a very important outing. Add to that how good his changeup looked, and it’s something to get a little bit excited about.”

Greg Prince Faith and Fear in Flushing Outta Where? “Not bad for late July, eh? Except for fabled Fenway being bereft of spectators...The sight of those empty red seats behind home plate was shocking. Preferable to cardboard cutout characters from Cheers...”

NY Post: Mets doing everything to avoid Marlins-like coronavirus outbreak

Mike’s Mets: Risky Business – “The Mets gave their offense the whole weekend off. They blew a game they should have won, and then barely showed up for the rubber game of the series. If that wasn't enough, now the season itself is in jeopardy thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak that hit the Marlins. Suddenly the Mets performing so poorly was only the second-biggest bummer of the weekend for me.”

Baseball ReferenceThe Pirates defeat the Mets, 5 - 1, in one of Major League Baseball's "Turn Ahead the Clock Nights." Each team wears futuristic uniforms, with the home town squad becoming the "Mercury" Mets for the night. The futuristic theme is carried out throughout the evening, with the scoreboard flashing computerized photos of the players as each comes to the plate. Rickey Henderson, for example, is given three eyes and pointy ears, and plays "left quadrant." Al Martin hits the first of his two home runs in the 1st "sector," and rookie Kris Benson goes the distance for the win.
