NY Post: Mets homer five times in rout of Yankees for first season Subway Series sweep since 2013.  "In 25 ¹/₃ innings against any other team this season, Gerrit Cole has allowed two home runs. In 9 ²/₃ innings against the Mets, Cole has allowed seven home runs." 

NY Post: Sean Manaea fails to last five innings in Mets’ blowout win. "Sean Manaea’s rocky first season with the Mets continued Wednesday, as the left-hander gave up just two runs, but didn’t make it through the fifth inning of a 12-3 win over the Yankees in The Bronx. The lefty walked four batters in just 4 ²/₃ innings and forced an already overworked bullpen to throw another four-plus innings." 

Newsday: Subway Series: Mets club five home runs, score 12 runs to complete season sweep of Yankees. "Adam Ottavino got an inning-ending force out and Danny Young, Alex Young and Adrian Houser got the final 12 outs while allowing one run."

In the seventh, Alonso just missed another homer — it went for an RBI double that completed his night of reaching base three times.”  

NY Post: Daniel Vogelbach raves about ‘awesome’ atmosphere during Mets debut. Vogelbach, acquired on Friday from the Pirates, started at DH and finished 1-for-3 with a walk. His single leading off the fifth was the Mets’ first hit of the game against Joe Musgrove.

Metstradamus: “It was always unfair to expect Taijuan Walker to be superhuman all season. He gave up dingers to George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez in the 3rd to give the Jays a 3-0 lead, and they were hit pretty hard.”

NY Post: Phenom debuts for hopeful Mets — but same old problems in loss. “Jonathan Niese, who had allowed six earned runs total in his previous five starts, found trouble quickly. Former Met Justin Turner made it 1-0 in the first with the first of his three extra base hits. Thomas’ bases loaded double play produced one run and Joc Pederson doubled in another in the second for a 3-0 Dodgers lead. Turner homered leading off the third, Yasiel Puig hit a two-run laser two batters later and the Dodgers led 6-0. Jimmy Rollins’ 10th homer of the season — his second in two nights and 32nd lifetime against the Mets — off Hansel Robles in the eighth made it 7-2.”

The Mets' player was a passenger in the 1991 Jeep Cherokee driven by LA outfielder Eric Davis, who acknowledges Coleman flipped the firecracker out of his vehicle as a 'joke,' but not into a crowd of people.  

In a 5-4 loss to the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, Mets right-hander Anthony Young extends his record losing streak to 27 games. The latest defeat is the result of the hard-luck hurler walking Dave Hansen in with the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning.
