Brian Joura Mets360: "The Mets smacked three home runs in the third inning to give Kodai Senga all the runs he’d need in his debut start of the 2024 season, as the Mets won their fifth-straight game, 8-4, over the Braves Friday night at Citi Field. With the win, the Mets moved half a game in front of the Braves and are now second place in the NL East, as well as the top Wild Card."

Anthony Rieber Newsday: Mets' Kodai Senga is injured in a reversal of fortune at Citi Field. "Kodai Senga, who was brilliant in his first start of the season, injured himself while running away from a pop-up in the sixth inning...Senga was clearing out from the mound area on the pop-up when he went down in a heap and grabbed his lower left leg. The Mets later announced that he suffered a left calf strain."  [Senga would miss the rest of the regular season returning for the playoffs to

Abbey Mastracco: Mets smash 3 homers in 7-run third inning but Kodai Senga leaves season-debut with injury in win over Braves. "Morton fell behind on Martinez, trying to work the outside corner against the right-handed slugger...Martinez drove it the other way for his ninth career grand slam, giving the Mets a 4-2 lead...Mark Vientos then cracked his 13th of the season with a two-run shot to left off Morton...With two out, Francisco Alvarez put one in the seats for his fifth of the year."

But the Mets stormed right back in the bottom half when Starling Marte homered with one out against Jordan Montgomery (3-3). Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso followed with back-to-back doubles, and Escobar’s two-run, two-out homer put the Mets ahead 4-2."

NY Post: Mets’ Edwin Diaz dominates in four-out save: ‘great weapon for us’. "For the second time this season, Edwin Diaz worked overtime, with the Mets asking him to record four outs in the Subway Series opener. Diaz answered the call, recording four strikeouts to close out a 6-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday night at Citi Field."

From the Mets 6 Yankees 3 - Post Game Notes 7/26/2022:Mets: Reached the 60-win mark in their 98th game of the season...Only the 1986 Mets reached the 60-win plateau faster (85 games).

Year: 2021; Game#98; Monday  Jul 26 (1) NYM 0 Vs. ATL 2; boxscore; 7 innings;  WP: Muller; LP: Stroman;  Save: Smith; Time: 2:12; NIGHT;  Record: 53-45; Standings: 1; Games up/behind: up 4.0; L;

Year: 2021; Game#99; Monday  Jul 26 (2) NYM 1 Vs. ATL 0; boxscore; 7 innings;  WP: May; LP: Jackson;  Save: Diaz; Time: 2:11; NIGHT; Attendance: 24,384;  Record: 54-45; Standings: 1; Games up/behind: up 4.0; W;

Mets split a double header with the Braves - the 7 inning style.

NY Post: Pete Alonso, Mets stymied by Braves to open doubleheader. "After averaging 5.67 runs in their previous nine games, the Mets were shut out for the first time since the All-Star break as they began a stretch in which they play 15 of 18 games against the NL East...Kyle Muller stifled the Mets over five shutout innings in which he allowed four hits and two walks with three strikeouts...The Mets had their best chance against Muller in the fifth, but Pete Alonso — who had homered five times in his last seven games — hit a chopper to third that became an inning-ending double play after Brandon Drury had delivered a pinch-hit double and Jonathan Villar walked."

NY Post: Jeff McNeil saves Mets from ugly doubleheader sweep by Braves. "Jeff McNeil sat for Game 1 of Monday’s doubleheader and played only five innings in the nightcap, but that presence was enough to help save the Mets from getting swept. On a day the Mets were stuck in neutral offensively, McNeil smashed an RBI double that accounted for the only run of a 1-0 victory over the Braves in Game 2 of a doubleheader...In a bullpen game started by Aaron Loup, the Mets used six pitchers who combined for the shutout in the nightcap. Anthony Banda went the longest, two innings. Edwin Diaz struck out the side in the ninth for his 22nd save."

Year: 2020; Game #3; Sunday;  Jul 26, NYM 1 Vs. ATL 14; boxscore;  WP: Chacin; LP: Porcello; Time: 3:20; NIGHT;  Record: 1-2; Standings: 3; Games up/behind: 1; L;

Braves 14 Mets 1.  Rick Porcello 2 innings, 7 Hits, 7 runs, 6 Earned Runs, 3 walks, 1 K;  Corey Oswalt, 4 innings, 7 hits (3 HR), 5 runs (all earned), 3 Ks;  Paul Sewald, 2 innings, 2 runs, 2 hits (1 HR), 1 walk, 1 K; Hunter Strickland, 1 inning, 1 hit, no runs, 1 K.  Mets score their lone run on back to back doubles by Tomas Nido and Brandon Nimmo in the 2nd.

Brian Joura Mets360: “We can hope that it was just a fluke outing for Porcello but neither his stuff nor command looked major league caliber. And for all of the talk about how he was going back to pitching at the bottom of the zone, there sure were a lot of weak-sauce pitches above the belt”

Metstradamus: He [Rick Porcello] threw bigger meatballs than Piccolo Angolo serves. (And these particular meatballs were served with a side of circuitous routes by J.D. Davis.)

NY Post: Uribe the walk-off hero after Mets nearly waste deGrom gem. “[Juan] Uribe helped by smashing an 0-2 cutter from Dodger closer Kenley Jansen off the wall in left to drive in the winning run in the 10th inning as the Mets, after blowing a two-run lead in the ninth, toppled the Dodgers, 3-2, Sunday at Citi Field.”

NY Post: How fluky Mets denied Zack Greinke his bid for history. ” After 45 ²/₃ innings pitched without being scored upon, the Dodgers ace finally gave up a run…In the third inning, Greinke hit Kirk Nieuwenhuis leading off, allowed a single to Kevin Plawecki and then opposing pitcher Jacob deGrom hit a chopper toward first base. Adrian Gonzalez came home with the ball, but Nieuwenhuis slid around catcher Yasmani Grandal’s tag…The second Mets run came in the sixth, when Greinke plunked rookie Michael Conforto with the bases loaded.”

NY Post: The Mets’ MVP is suddenly a concern. “Familia blew his second straight save since the All-Star break, wasting Jacob deGrom’s brilliant performance Sunday by allowing two ninth-inning runs.”

Jenrry Mejia with a scoreless 10th gets the win.  His last ever in his Major league career.
