Mets split a pair with Milwaukee. 

MLB.com: "In the first game, the Mets had a 2-1 lead entering the top of the sixth, but reliever Reed Garrett had a meltdown and allowed four runs including a grand slam to Joey Ortiz as New York lost the game, 7-2. In Game 2, Brewers phenom Jacob Misiorowski was on the mound and he saw a couple of changes to the Mets’ lineup. Normally the leadoff hitter, Francisco Lindor was dropped a peg to the second spot in the batting order, while Brandon Nimmo -- who could be anywhere in the lineup -- was the leadoff hitter." 

Newsday: "The opener was rough going as scuffling high-leverage reliever Reed Garrett gave up Joey Ortiz’ grand slam as part of blowing a one-run lead and the Mets’ lineup got just two hits — none in the final five innings — during a 7-2 loss. That gave the Mets four consecutive losses and 14 in 17 games dating back to June 13...The nightcap...the Mets roughed up Milwaukee rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski in an 7-3 victory that featured Brandon Nimmo hitting a grand slam out of the leadoff spot, Francisco Lindor following it with a solo shot to cap a five-run second and the late-inning relievers holding the line." 

NY Post: "The deeply slumping Mets tried something new and found a new result: Carlos Mendoza penciled Nimmo in as his first hitter for the nightcap, bouncing Lindor out of the spot that had become his home. Both players responded, Nimmo most loudly by lifting a second-inning grand slam against overpowering Milwaukee rookie Jacob Misiorowski to help the Mets salvage a doubleheader split on a long Wednesday of baseball at Citi Field."

Mets jumped out to a 5-1 lead thanks to a bases loaded Jeff McNeil single, a Mark Canha solo homer and Tommy Pham RBI double.  After the Giants cut the lead to 5-4 in the 7th, Pete Alonso doubled and Starling Marte singled him in.  Pete also added a 2-run homer in the 8th.

• Mets: Won their first series since their three-game sweep of the Phillies from May 30 - June 1...Won consecutive games for the first time since June 14 - 16...Have won five of the last seven season series against the Giants.  
• Pete Alonso: Put the Mets on the board with a bases-loaded walk in the third after working a 10-pitch at-bat...Hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, his 25th of the season...Moves into sole possession of third in the majors with 25 home runs and third in the National League with 58 RBI. 
• Tommy Pham: Hit an RBI double in the fourth inning...Extended his hitting streak to six games (.591, 13-22, 2 HR, 4 2B, 5 RBI, 6 R)...Pham has an extra-base hit in five of his last six games...Has 16 hits over his last nine games. 
• Grant Hartwig (2.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K): Earned his first major league win.

Brandon Nimmo led off the Mets' 1st with a single and Starling Marte homered in the next at-bat to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead.  Texas answered with two homers for 4 runs in the top or the 2nd to take the lead for good - later adding anothr dinger off Mets starter and loser Trevor Williams.  Eduard Escobar added a homer later for the Mets 3rd run. 

Mets360: Gut Reaction: Rangers 7, Mets 3 (7/2/22) "Trevor Williams got beat up by the long ball, the Mets couldn’t buy a hit with runners in scoring position and the end result was a 7-3 loss to the Rangers Saturday afternoon at Citi Field."  

NY Post: Trevor Williams gets roughed in loss as Mets’ NL East lead shrinks “The Mets (48-30) have lost four of their past five ahead of the rubber match against the Rangers on Sunday. The Braves won again, so the Mets’ NL East lead has been trimmed to just 2 ¹/₂ games, the closest the division has been since April 30.”

Chicago outscored New York 9-1 in this series at Citi Field...Arrieta (8-5) pitched eight sharp innings, helping extend the Cubs' shutout string to 25 innings before the Mets managed their only run of this set...Jacob deGrom (8-6) doubled and scored for the Mets, who have totaled a mere 23 runs in 14 games. DeGrom delivered another hard hit, too. The righty exited after Herrera's two-run homer in the sixth inning, then punched a Gatorade cooler in the dugout with his pitching hand."

Yankees scored 8 runs against Alay Solar (L,2-3) in 2.2 innings and then another 8 off Heath Bell in 2.1 innings in the blow out loss.  It was Solar's last game in the majors as he sent to the minors after the game and never returned. Mets actually led in this game scoring 4 in the 2nd to take an early lead on an 2-run triple by Jose Reyes and RBI singles by Jose Valentin and Paul Lo Duca.  The Yankees 8-run 3rd put them up to stay for good.

Kris Benson singled in David Wright to tie the game at one in the 5th.  Three batters later, Carlos Beltran double in Benson and Jose Reyes to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  All that running must have worn out Benson as he allowed 4 runs the next inning to put the Fish up 5-3 - a lead they never relinquished the rest of the game.

National Pastime.com: At Shea Stadium, Gregory Sweeney is arrested and charged with reckless endangerment after he throws a ball which Braves reliever John Rocker had tossed into the stands back onto the field. In a few days later, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown exonerates the 26 year-old Brooklyn man when he concludes the Mets fan had no criminal intent and was doing nothing more than following a baseball tradition of returning an unsolicited and unwanted souvenir.

A 3-run 3rd inning propelled the Mets to the win.  Gary Carter's Sac FLy drives in his 2nd of the game, Darryl Strawberry an RBI double and a George Foster RBI triple.  Doug Sisk (W,2-1) threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief after Mets starting pitcher Rick Aguilera was removed after allowing 3 runs on 8 hits in 4.2 innings.
