"Tyrone Taylor homered leading off the third to give the Mets their first run...Mark Vientos’ two-run blast in the fourth extended the Mets’ lead to 3-0...Vientos has five homers since June 23 as a central figure in the Mets’ sizzling lineup...Francisco Lindor’s two-run homer in the fifth put the Mets ahead 5-0."

Brian Joura Mets360: "Scott threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits, four earned runs, two walks and two K, with 99 pitches, 65 of which he threw for strikes. Ran out of gas in the 6th with Jessie Winker’s single putting runners on the corner before giving up a three-run dinger to close the gap to 5-4."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' bullpen, still lacking Edwin Diaz, blows it in loss to Nationals. "The good news for the Mets is Edwin Diaz’s 10-game sticky-stuff suspension is almost over. They have to navigate only two more games before he returns Saturday. The bad news for the Mets is his absence and its ripple effects have impacted each of their past several games, including a 7-5 loss to the Nationals on Wednesday night."

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "With the Mets up 5-4, right-hander Adam Ottavino got the first two outs before handing the ball over to Diekman to face the top of the order. But the veteran lefty couldn’t finish off hitters...Diekman got ahead on CJ Abrams before falling behind and walking him. He was ahead 1-2 before giving up an RBI double to Lane Thomas...rookie outfielder James Wood...singled up the middle to score Abrams and put the Nats up 6-5."

NY Post: Bays’ game-winner saves Mets from sweep of Yankees. “’I’m not trying to make it monumental or anything, but just the way I’ve struggled, to come through in an unbelievable game, it definitely means a lot,’ Bay said after his RBI single off Hector Noesi gave the Mets a 3-2 victory over the Yankees at Citi Field…The Mets (42-42) can send a thank-you note to Yankees shortstop Ramiro Pena, playing in place of injured Derek Jeter and Eduardo Nunez. Pena booted Daniel Murphy’s grounder, bringing Bay to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th after the Mets had tied the game against Mariano Rivera an inning earlier.”

Lots of great regular season games in 1986 - but this was one of the best.  Phil Garner homers off Jesse Orosco in the top of the 10th to give Houston a 5-3 lead.  Then in the bottom of the inning, Lenny Dykstra leads off with a walk and Darryl Strawberry follow with his 2nd 2-run homer of the night to tie it.  Two batter later, Ray Knight send everyone home happy with a walk-off home run.

Ex-Met Prospect Jerry Morales led off the 9th with a Home Run off Tom Seaver to tie the game at two.  Then in the bottom of the 10th, Bud Harrelson led off with a triple, Joe Torre and Mike Phillips were intentionally walked to load the bases. Darold Knowles came n to K Bruce Boisclair but when he tried to pick off Mike Phillips at 1st, threw wildly and Harrelson scored the winning run.
