Mets.com: "In just his fourth outing for the Mets, Montas worked five-plus strong innings on a sweltering day as New York held off the Royals, 3-1, on Saturday at Kauffman Stadium. It was the second win for Montas in a week, and it provided another encouraging sign that he might be primed for a big second half after a right lat strain derailed the early portion of his season.
Laura Albanese Newsday: "The Mets opened the scoring in the fourth on a pair of milestones. Francisco Lindor led off the inning with a single off reliever Jonathan Bowan, and took second for his 200th career stolen base. Then Soto, who was DH’ing after taking a foul ball off the shin Friday, proved he was more than all right, launching Bowan’s full-count sider 435 feet to right to put the Mets up 2-0. It was Soto’s 23rd homer of the year, which matches a career high in the first half, a feat he also accomplished with the Yankees last year. It was also his second homer in five innings, going back to Friday night."
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "For all of the consternation, negative narratives and dizzying gossip that have surrounded Juan Soto since the start of the season, the Mets superstar right fielder will end the first half of the 2025 campaign with numbers similar to what he’s posted in the first half of previous seasons."
Mike Puma NY Post: "DÃaz recorded the final six outs for his 19th save this season...DÃaz received a boost from an overturned call in the eighth. Bobby Witt Jr. was originally ruled safe in his attempted steal of second, but the Mets challenged the call and won."

Newsday: Mets' Dedniel Nunez will have Tommy John surgery for second time. "Nunez, 29, who was signed by the Mets as an international free agent in 2016, first got the surgery in 2021, stalling his development. He didn’t make his major-league debut until April 2024, but immediately had an impact. The power-throwing righty racked up the strikeouts on the way to a 2.31 ERA in 25 appearances with the Mets, and was pivotal in their stretch run, striking out 48 batters in 35 innings."
Keith Law The Athletic: Future Games Review: "Mets right-hander Jonah Tong has an ugly delivery, really — it’s straight over the top and he comes across his body — but my word what comes out of his arm is good: 95-97 with big ride and above-average extension, a plus curveball at 78-80 with real depth (boosted by the slot), and a solid changeup. He seems to get to his glove side better than I’d expect given the slot and landing spot." (Subscription required)
Bill Madden NY Daily News: Yankees, Mets need more than just fine-tuning at trade deadline. "...baseball ops chief David Stearns still has his work cut out for him. The perpetually injured Jesse Winker went down again after just two games Thursday meaning the Mets still need a left-handed outfield bat, and even with Jose Butto expected to be back after the All-Star break, Ryan Stanek’s recent string of ineffectiveness has created a need for another high-leverage reliever."
