Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: "A memorable day of honoring the career achievements of Wright was followed by a game the Mets will want to forget. Clay Holmes couldn’t make it through six innings, the defense defended little and the Mets chased all sorts of pitches in a 5-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds."

Brian Joura Mets360: Luis Torrens tried to backpick a runner at first base on a play that Pete Alonso was charging in. Brett Baty was in the area of first base but it was just a poor decision by Torrens to throw the ball...two runs scored in the inning, with one being unearned...Later, a ball was hit to Ronny Mauricio that should have been an inning-ending double play. But he made a poor throw to second base, one which Baty made a nice play just to get one out on...That was two more runs that shouldn’t have scored.

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets’ bats fail again in sloppy loss to Reds with Citi Field boo birds out in full force. "Nobody had a worse day than Francisco Lindor, who went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. Overall, the Mets went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position — an issue from before the All-Star break that has festered."

Anthony Rieber Newsday: "The Mets had another chance in the ninth when the first two batters reached against closer Emilio Pagan. After Lindor grounded into a hard-hit 3-6 forceout, Juan Soto, on 3-and-2, sent a screaming drive down the rightfield line. However, the potential tying three-run home run was just to the foul side of the pole in right (a crew chief review confirmed the foul call). Soto wound up striking out on a checked swing called by third-base umpire Alex Tossi.”

  • Brett Baty (2-3, HR, RBI, BB, R): Blasted a solo home run to right field in the second inning to extend the Mets' lead to 2-0...It was his career-high 10th homer of the season...In 41 home games with an at-bat he is hitting .292 (35-120) with 23 RBI, nine home runs, three doubles, and a triple...He reached base safely three or more times for the fourth time this season.

  • Brooks Raley (1.0 IP, 2 K): Entered in the seventh inning and struck out two during a scoreless inning of work...The appearance marked his season debut and his first appearance since April 19, 2024 at Los Angeles-NL.

New York Mets sold
Omar Quintanilla to the Baltimore Orioles on July 20, 2012.

1965: Seven is a lucky number for the Braves as they score seven runs in the 7th to beat the Mets, 7 - 1. Hank Aaron's two-run homer, off Larry Miller, is the capper on the scoring.

1985: Driving in seven runs on two homers, Darryl Strawberry leads the Mets to a 16 - 4 drubbing of the visiting Braves. Straw's first home run is a grand slam in the 1st inning and his next is a three-run home run in the 4th. The Mets also get homers from Howard JohnsonDanny Heep and Clint Hurdle.

1995 - Mets OF Brett Butler strokes four hits, but it is not enough to prevent an 8 - 6 New York loss to the Cardinals. The hits give Butler 15 for his last four games, one shy of the record of 16 set by Brooklyn's Milt Stock in 1925.

2014 - In his fifth major league start, Odrisamer Despaigne comes within four outs of throwing the first no-hitter in the history of the San Diego Padres. The Mets' Daniel Murphy breaks his bid with a two-out double in the 8th, and David Wright follows with a single that ties the score at 1 - 1, ending Despaigne's day. Joaquin Benoit is the winner after the Padres score in the bottom of the 9th for a 2- 1 win.
