Newsday: "The Mets continued their ascent behind a pair of home runs by Pete Alonso that produced five runs and a first-inning grand slam by Brandon Nimmo that put them ahead for good in a 12-6 triumph Saturday before 41,401 at Citi Field."

Brian Joura Mets360: "After the Yankees went down in order in their half of the first inning, the Mets loaded the bases, thanks to a double and two walks, which brought Nimmo to the plate. On a 1-2 count, Nimmo hit his third homer – and second slam – in four days, giving the Mets an early 4-0 lead."

NY Post: Frankie Montas gives Mets’ banged-up rotation a lift with reinforcements on the way. "The Mets got through Saturday in style primarily because Montas, in his third start after missing the first three months with a strained right lat, turned in an effective 5 ²/₃ innings in which the 32-year-old right-hander was better than his line — allowing four runs on five hits that included a pair of solo home runs to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Austin Wells."

  • Brandon Nimmo: Put the Mets on the board with his third grand slam of the season and the fourth of his career...His three grand slams in a single season tie a franchise record with John Milner (1976), Robin Ventura (1999), Mike Piazza (2000) and Carlos Beltrán (2006)...Joins Milner (6/26-7/1/76), Ventura (5/20/99 G1 and G2) and Beltrán (7/16-18/06) as the only Mets to hit two grand slams in a span of four or fewer games...Courtesy of Elias.
  • Pete Alonso: Hit a two-run homer to right field in the fifth...Was his 10th home run against the Yankees, breaking a tie with David Wright for the most in franchise history...With that home run, picked up his 655th and 656th career RBI...Moved ahead of Mike Piazza for the third-most in franchise history.

Rod Kanehl, appearing as a pinch-hitter, hits the first grand slam in Mets history, going deep off Bobby Shantz in the eighth inning of the team's 10-3 victory over the Cardinals at the Polo Grounds. The bases loaded round-tripper comes in the 79th game of the franchise's existence.

In a rare Mets victory, Gil Hodges goes deep off Redbird hurler Ray Sadecki for his 370th and final home run of his career, finishing tenth on the all-time list and with the most round-trippers ever hit by a right-handed batter in the National League. In attendance at the Polo Grounds contest is eight year-old Howie Rose, the future Mets radio voice watching his first major league game, and Ralph Kiner, the play-by-play announcer for the expansion team, who will have the quiet first baseman on his postgame show, Kiner Korner, reminding his guest that the right-handed NL home run mark had been established by him in 1954.
